20080205824 | Angle-specific multi-fiber ferrules and associated methods of manufacture - The present invention provides a method of manufacture that minimizes the lateral offset of a plurality of optical fiber holes associated with a multi-fiber ferrule, including: determining an initial offset distance of each of the plurality of optical fiber holes from each of a plurality of corresponding target locations on an initial endface; removing a predetermined amount of material from the multi-fiber ferrule to form a subsequent endface; determining a subsequent offset distance of each of the plurality of optical fiber holes from each of the plurality of corresponding target locations on the subsequent endface; and, using the initial offset distance and the subsequent offset distance, determining an angle of each of the plurality of optical fiber holes relative to the initial endface. The method of manufacture also includes, using the angle, determining an optimal amount of material that is removed from the multi-fiber ferrule in order to minimize the offset distance of the plurality of optical fiber holes from the plurality of corresponding target locations. The method of manufacture further includes, using the optimal amount of material, removing this amount of material from another similarly-situated multi-fiber ferrule. | 08-28-2008 |
20080232744 | Multifiber ferrule with precision bumpers and methods for making the same - A multifiber (MF) ferrule produced using a ferrule molding insert that is jig ground in order to improve the tolerance on the bumper height of a molded ferrule and the surface finish on the region of interest (ROI), thus improving manufacturing yields. | 09-25-2008 |

20090035778 | METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR CORRELATING GENETIC MARKERS WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS - The present invention provides, in certain aspects, a method of identifying a subject as having an increased risk of developing multiple sclerosis, comprising detecting in the subject the presence of a nucleotide variant in the interleukin 7 receptor alpha chain gene, whereby the presence of said variant identifies the subject as having an increased risk of developing multiple sclerosis. | 02-05-2009 |
20090263801 | Phenotype-Genotype Relationship in Age-Related Macular Degeneration - Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) cases possessing the LOC387715 (rs10490924) variant have a higher risk of neovascular AMD. Individuals with AMD who are homozygous for both variants might be at greater risk for earlier onset of neovascular AMD. Determining the presence of this variant indicates which path the disease may take and which nutritional, supplement, or medicaments are appropriate. | 10-22-2009 |
20100145223 | Peripheral Reticular Pigmentary Change and Age-Related Macular Degeneration - Examination of 956 age-related macular degeneration cases showed that the complement factor H variant (Y402H, C allele at rs1061170) increases risk for the development of peripheral reticular pigmentary change. AMD phenotypes of 796 carriers of the CFH Y402H variant were compared to the AMD phenotypes of 160 non-carriers. Of 34 phenotypic features analyzed, only peripheral reticular pigmentary change (PRPC) was associated with this CFH variant (P-value 0.0006). The proportion of AMD cases with PRPC correlated with the number of CFH risk C alleles in a dose-response fashion. The association of CFH Y402H polymorphism with PRPC suggests that AMD changes are not limited to the macula. Current AMD grading methods assess only the macula; peripheral retinal changes should also be included in grading methods. PRPC may be used as a surrogate of a high-risk genotype and may be used for diagnostic, therapeutic, and research purposes. | 06-10-2010 |
20100190264 | Genetic Variants Increase the Risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration - Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in the elderly whose etiology remains largely unknown. Previous studies identified chromosome 1q32 as harboring a susceptibility locus for AMD, but it was not identified. We identified a strongly associated haplotype in two independent data sets. DNA sequencing of the complement factor II gene (CHI) within this haplotype revealed a coding variant, Y402II, that significantly increases the risk for AMD with odds ratios between 2.45 and 5.57. This identifies Complement factor II as involved in pathogenesis of AMD. This single variant alone is so common that it likely explains 43 percent of AMD in older adults. In addition, we have replicated and refined previous reports implicating a coding change in LOC387715 as the second major AMD susceptibility allele. The effect of rs10490924 appears to be completely independent of the Y402II variant in the CFH gene. The joint effect of these two susceptibility genes is consistent with a multiplicative model, and together, they may explain as much as 65% of the PAR of AMD. In contrast, the effect of rs10490924 appears to be strongly modified by cigarette smoking. Smoking and LOC387715 together may explain as much as 34% of AMD. Our data indicate that variant genotypes at rs10490924 confer a substantially larger AMD risk to cigarette smokers than non-smokers. This observation is supported by traditional case-control modeling, by ordered subset linkage analysis (OSA) incorporating pack-years of cigarette smoking as a covariate, and by family-based association analysis using a more homogeneous set of families as defined by OSA. | 07-29-2010 |

20160047488 | GATE VALVE - A gate valve is provided with a flapper mechanism that is disposed in the main body of the valve and automatically works to seal and isolate the main body of the valve from a bonnet. The bonnet is isolated without any manual function or operation. When the flapper valve is in a closed position, the bonnet, gate and gate actuating mechanism can be removed from the gate valve body without isolating the gate valve. This enables the bonnet and associated components to be repaired or replaced while water or fluid under pressure continues to flow through the main body of the gate valve. | 02-18-2016 |
