20100121226 | FALL DETECTION SYSTEM - The invention relates to a fall detection system, for detecting human fall incidents. The detection system comprises a sensor module to be worn by a user, for collecting motion data of his body, for instance acceleration data; first evaluation logic for identifying a potential fall incident on the basis of an impact observed in the acceleration data; and second evaluation logic for verifying that the sensor module is actually worn by the user, at least around the time of said impact, to prevent the system from raising an alarm if only the sensor module has fallen. The second evaluation logic may comprise free fall detection means for evaluating the acceleration data on characteristics which are typical for a free falling object, such as one or more full rotation and/or a free falling phase, during which the magnitude of the acceleration data is relatively stable and small. Additionally or alternatively the second evaluation logic may comprise body proximity detection means for detecting whether the sensor module is in close proximity to the human body. | 05-13-2010 |
20110172951 | METHODS FOR PROCESSING MEASUREMENTS FROM AN ACCELEROMETER - There is provided a method for estimating the orientation of an accelerometer relative to a fixed reference frame, the method comprising obtaining signals from the accelerometer, the signals indicating the components of the acceleration acting on the accelerometer along three orthogonal axes; identifying the axis with the highest component of acceleration; and determining the orientation of the accelerometer by determining the angle between the acceleration acting on the accelerometer and the axis with the highest component of acceleration. There is further provided a method for estimating the vertical acceleration in the fixed reference frame using the estimated orientation. | 07-14-2011 |
20110178760 | POWER MEASUREMENT METHOD AND APPARATUS - There is provided an apparatus for estimating the power used by a user in performing the vertical component of a movement, the apparatus comprising an accelerometer for attachment to a user and for measuring the acceleration experienced by the user; the apparatus further comprising a processor configured to receive the measurements of the acceleration from the accelerometer attached to the user; estimate the vertical accelerations from the received measurements; and estimate the power used from the vertical accelerations. | 07-21-2011 |
