20090203526METHOD OF CONTROLLING UNWANTED VEGETATION - The present invention is a method of controlling or preventing unwanted vegetation in a crop planting site by applying a traditionally recognized post-emergent herbicide to a planting site in a pre-emergent application and subsequently applying the same or different traditionally recognized post-emergent herbicide to the planting site in a post-emergent application. Further, a reduction in the amount of a post-emergent herbicide necessary for controlling unwanted vegetation in a crop planting site can be achieved by providing a pre-emergent treatment including a traditionally recognized post-emergent herbicide to the planting site and subsequently providing a post-emergent treatment of a reduced amount of the same or different post-emergent herbicide.08-13-2009

20110146912Multi-layer, light markable media and method and automatic and manually operated apparatus for using same - A multi-layer laminate media is provided on which information may be applied in machine or human readable form on a visible front surface by the output of one or more lasers, or other high intensity light source. In a preferred embodiment, the media has three layers including preferably transparent substrate, a thermochromic layer and a light absorbent layer located intermediate the media substrate and the thermochromic layer. The light absorbent layer is adapted to absorb light from the light source and convert the absorbed light into heat. The heat is immediately conducted into selected portions of the thermochromic layer which is in thermal contact with the light absorbent layer, causing portions of the thermochromic layer to change visual appearance such as color to create the desired mark. The media optimally includes obscuration materials to reduce the visibility of the light absorbent layer to the naked eye. The light absorbent layer absorbs light in the NIR and visible light wavelength ranges of light and is preferably a low cost absorber such as carbon black. The invention also includes a manually operated produce labeling system utilizing the multi-layer laminate media. A rewinder is also provided which utilizes the multi-layer laminate media.06-23-2011

20080276848Disc Opener For An Agricultural Planting Apparatus - A disc opener assembly for an agricultural planter includes a coulter disc formed without a pilot hole for the spindle of the mounting hub. The mounting hub is formed without the spindle such that the coulter disc is supported directly in a cantilevered manner from the mounting flange of the mounting hub. The coulter disc is formed with fastener holes aligned with mounting holes in the mounting flange for the passage of fasteners to affix the coulter disc to the mounting flange. The fasteners are countersunk into the coulter disc to present a smooth exterior surface. A seal is positioned between the mounting flange and the coulter disc to prevent the entry of dirt and debris into the mounting hub. No dust cap on the exterior surface of the coulter disc is required with this configuration which improves the operation of the disc opener assembly.11-13-2008

20110313572Automatic Down Pressure Adjustment System For Set Of Ganged Disc Openers - A disc opener unit for an agricultural implement has a down pressure adjustment device that automatically adjusts the amount of down pressure applied on a furrowing disc based on strain measurements taken by a strain gauge or load cell. The strain gauge, which may be mounted to an arm that is used to set the position of a depth setting gauge wheel, provides feedback to a processor that in turn controls the amount of hydraulic fluid in a hydraulic cylinder to adjust the down force applied on the disc. The amount of down pressure is therefore adjusted in substantially real-time in response to changes in field conditions, which improves furrow depth consistency and reduces wear on the gauge wheel and its components.12-22-2011
