20100055039NON-INVASIVE METHODS OF MONITORING ENGRAFTED STEM CELLS AND METHODS FOR ISOLATION OF SKELETAL MUSCLE STEM CELLS - The embodiments of the present disclosure encompass methods for non-invasive in vivo bioluminescence imaging that allow the dynamics of stem cell behavior to be followed in a manner not possible using conventional retrospective static histological analyses. By imaging luciferase-generated bioluminescence activity emanating from isolated stem cells, for example, real time quantitative and kinetic analyses can show that donor-derived muscle stem cells may proliferate and engraft rapidly after injection until homeostasis is reached. In addition, the response of the stem cells to injury and participation in the regenerative response can be monitored over time. Other aspects of the disclosure encompasses methods for determining the suitability of a stem cell for tissue replacement, methods for repairing muscle injury, and methods for isolating muscle stem cells from a tissue sample.03-04-2010

20110000855Media for Removal of Contaminants from Fluid Streams and Method of Making and Using Same - Sorption media for removal of contaminants from fluid streams are provided. The sorption media comprise an active compound bound or linked to a support substrate or matrix. Support substrates can include iron- and alumina-based materials. A method for making sorption media for the removal of contaminants from fluid streams is also described. The method includes selecting a support substrate, and, optionally, providing a doping mixture comprising an active compound. The selected support substrate can be contacted with the doping mixture to form a doped mixture. The doped mixture can be reacted at a predetermined temperature and atmospheric environment for a predetermined duration to form an active media, wherein the active compound is bound or linked to the support substrate.01-06-2011

20090281523RFID-tagged urinary catheter - A hand-held RFID scanner appliance is employed to capture and display status of urinary catheters in hospital patients. The patients are provided with RFID wrist bracelets, and catheters are provided with RFID tags, each with a unique identification code. When the nurse performs a catheter insertion, the nurse scans the patient wrist bracelet with the appliance, then scans a selected catheter. After the catheter is successfully inserted, the catheter is scanned a second time. This creates a time stamp, and a data entry is recorded with the patient identity, presence of catheter, and time of insertion. The appliance is synchronized to the hospital server, and the catheterization status of the hospital patients is displayed for the medical practitioners. This process aids in preventing hospital-acquired urinary tract infections.11-12-2009
20090315684CUI-Tagged Catheter Devices and System - A hand-held scanner appliance is employed to capture and display status of various types of catheter devices that have been inserted in hospital patients. The nurse scans his or her staff ID coded device, then scans the patient's ID wrist bracelets, and scans a catheter-unique identification coded tag on the catheter device. When the nurse performs a catheter insertion, and the catheter is scanned, a data entry is recorded with the patient identity, presence of catheter, and time of insertion. An intelligent rules engine computes the target removal time for the catheter device, which is also displayed. An alert for each catheterization occurs prior to the target removal time. The appliance is synchronized to the hospital server, and the catheterization status of the hospital patients is displayed for the medical practitioner. This process aids in preventing hospital-acquired infections.12-24-2009

20090144814Automated Credentialing for Physicians and Other Professionals - An automated system for credentialing physicians or practitioners in other professions employs a databank of verified practitioner data on a central computer server. The file for each practitioner can include education, employment history, board certification record, and derogatory information, such as disciplinary proceedings, if any. A remote computer station can access the central computer server to download a credentialing profile on the computer screen. The computer station can have an RFID reader for inputting a practitioner identity code that uniquely identifies the respective practitioner. There may be RFID tags embedded in diplomas or certificates to aid in verifying authenticity.06-04-2009

20110313783TRANSPORTATION MODE DETERMINATION IN NON-MASS CASUALTY TRIAGE - Transportation mode determination in non-mass casualty triage is provided and involves receiving, from incident personnel at a casualty scene, patient screening information for a victim or victims at the casualty scene. Location screening information for the victim or victims is also established and received. Victim eligibility for Medevac transport is determined by logically factoring the patient screening information and the location screening information. The determination can be performed by computer implemented decision logic. In addition to determining eligibility of the victim or victims for Medevac transport, transportation mode determination (e.g., what type of transportation) can be established for those determined eligible, determination of whether to transport to a trauma center or care facility, determination/selection of a specific trauma center or care facility for treatment, and/or a determination of an order of treatment, or transport for treatment, for each of the victims.12-22-2011
