20080320171METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR HEADER COMPRESSION - A compression context for a plurality of packets is established with a receiving device. Each of these packets is associated with one or more reliable multicast protocols, such as the Layered Coding Transform (LCT) protocol, the Asynchronous Layered Coding (ALC) protocol, the FLUTE protocol, the MUPPET protocol, and the NACK-Oriented Reliable Multicast (NORM) protocol. Upon establishment of the compression context, a compressed packet is generated for one of the plurality of packets and transmitted to the receiving device. The compressed packet has a reduced number of bits in its header. Upon receipt, the receiving device decompresses the compressed packet based on the compression context.12-25-2008

20080222701Using secondary bearer to detect proximity of a device - A new and unique method or apparatus for providing protected transport of digital content from a first device to a second device, featuring activating a proximity link between the first and second devices; performing proximity detection between the first device and the second device; delivering the digital content from the first device to second device over a communications link when it is determined that the proximity between devices is within a predetermined range. The proximity link may take the form of a wireless link that is limited in its range with adequate authentication mechanisms, and may be either is an additional link compared to, for example, a wireless broadband link, or may even form part of the wireless broadband link if its broadband is sufficient. In operation, an actual streaming transfer or other suitable data transfer would be provided from one device to the other device using the additional link, such as the wireless broadband link. In particular, the proximity link may ensure that the physical proximity of the other device is in a certain range.09-11-2008
20090052421DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN DEVICES OF DIFFERENT TYPES IN A WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK (WLAN) - A method and system for distinguishing between devices of different types (e.g., mobile and stationary devices) in a wireless local area network (WLAN) in order to provide additional services to one or the other. The method includes obtaining a device type for the terminal, and providing specific services to the terminal if the terminal is a device of a certain type.02-26-2009
20090161579Method, system, and apparatus for implementing network capable input devices - Interaction with network capable input device involves advertising, from a mobile device coupled to an Internet Protocol (IP) network, a user input service via an ad-hoc peer-to-peer protocol of the IP network. The user input service is established with a controlled device via the ad-hoc, peer-to-peer protocol. User input events are detected at the mobile device, and the user input events are provided to the controlled device in accordance with parameters of the established user input service.06-25-2009
20090287794Assisting media servers in determining media profiles - Assisting media servers to determine profiles of locally served media objects involves enumerating digital media objects on a media server device. A remote procedure call of a network server is invoked to determine the media profile identifiers. Sample portions of the digital media objects are accessed, and the sample portions are usable to assign media profile identifiers to the respective digital media objects. The sample portions of the digital media objects are sent to the network server. In response to invoking the remote procedure call, the media server device receives the media profile identifiers assigned to the sample portions from the network server. The media profile identifiers are assigned to the digital media objects at the media server device based on the assignment of the media profile identifiers to the sample portions.11-19-2009

20090319489System and Method for Improving Operations on a Media Server - A system and method by which a media server's operations may be improved. A new action parameter is provided. The action parameter, which may be used, for example, in browse and CreateObject operations, may be used by a device as a “hint” to inform a server about a forthcoming action. This action parameter allows the media server to optimize its operations, for example by increasing the priority of server processes, scheduling maintenance operations so that they occur at a later time, etc. Information related to the action may be provided by a control point which orders multimedia actions to occur in a home network.12-24-2009
