20130272658 | MULTI-MODE MULTI-FIBER CONNECTION WITH EXPANDED BEAM - A method and system using GRIN fibers with a large core radius (such as twice that of the optical fibers which the GRIN fibers are used to interconnect) to expand incident beam are disclosed. In certain examples, the GRIN fibers expand the incident beams to near-collimation. In certain examples, the beam expansion reduces the connection's sensitivity (i.e., power attenuation) to lateral displacement between the optical fibers at the cost of increased sensitivity to angular misalignment between the fibers. With certain fiber connection hardware that provides precision angular alignment, beam expansion provides improved connection performance. In certain examples, a multi-fiber connector module (such as MPO), with MT-style ferrules, is used to interconnect multiple fiber pairs, each with GRIN fiber endings. In certain examples, the near-collimation of the incident beams allows efficient transmission between fibers without the need for physical contact between the fibers. | 10-17-2013 |

20120267495 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HOLDING AN OPTICAL ROD - A system for holding an optical rod, contains an optical mount having a hole traversing throughout a body of the optical mount, wherein the optical mount is a c-shaped collar clamp. The system also contains an optical rod having a circumferential area and a split sleeve encompassing the optical rod circumferential area for at least a portion of the axial length of the optical rod. The split sleeve and optical rod are inserted within the optical mount hole, and the split sleeve contains an inner surface and an outer surface, where material of the split sleeve does not conform intimately with the optical rod so as to maintain total internal reflection conditions. | 10-25-2012 |

20150244830 | MODIFYING CONTENT REGIONS OF A DIGITAL MAGAZINE BASED ON USER INTERACTION - A digital magazine application executing on a client device presents content retrieved from various sources to a user by presenting content regions that are each associated with various content items. When the digital magazine application identifies a type of interaction with a content region, the content region is modified to present information about various content items associated with the content region. For example, if the digital magazine application determines that a user positions a pointer at least a threshold distance from a surface of a display device for at least a threshold length of time at a location along a length and along a width of a display device where a content region is presented, the content region is modified. For example, the content region is increased in size and information describing content items associated with the content region is presented. | 08-27-2015 |
