20090037135Radiation Thermometer - A radiation thermometer comprising a radiation detector and an optical input path arranged to direct radiation from an object of interest to the radiation detector is disclosed. The radiation detector is adapted to output a signal related to the radiation received from the object of interest, and a processor is adapted to generate temperature measurements from the signal. Filtering means are provided in the optical input path which are arranged to block radiation having a wavelength between approximately 0.92 and 0.98 microns.02-05-2009
20090196324Real-Time Line Scan Extraction from Infrared Images Using the Wedge Method in Industrial Environments - A method of measuring the temperature of a sheet material arranged such that it forms at least one side of a cavity, so as to enhance the effective emissivity of the sheet material in the vicinity of the cavity comprises: generating a thermal image of at least part of the inside of the cavity, the thermal image comprising a plurality of pixels each having a pixel value representative of radiation emitted by a respective region of the cavity; identifying a first subset of the pixels whose pixel values meet predetermined criteria; using the identified first subset to determine a line on the thermal image representative of optimal emissivity enhancement in the cavity; and selecting a second subset of the pixels based on the determined line and generating a temperature profile along the determined line derived from the pixel values associated with each of the second subset of pixels.08-06-2009
20110018721METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING THE TEMPERATURE OF A SHEET MATERIAL - A method of measuring the temperature of a sheet material in which the sheet material is arranged such that it forms at least one side of a cavity so as to enhance the effective emissivity of the sheet material in the vicinity of the cavity. The method involves a) generating a thermal image of at least part of the inside of the cavity using a thermal imaging device to detect radiation emitted by the cavity, the thermal image comprising a plurality of pixels each having a pixel value representative of radiation emitted by a respective region of the cavity; b) identifying a first subset of the plurality of pixels whose pixel values meet predetermined criteria; c) using the identified first subset of pixels to determine a line on the thermal image representative of optimal emissivity enhancement in the cavity; and d) selecting a second subset of the plurality of pixels based on the determined line and generating a temperature profile along the determined line derived from the pixel values associated with each of the second subset of pixels.01-27-2011

20080295528SUSPENSION ROD TENSIONING ARRANGEMENTS FOR SUPPORTING CRYOGENIC EQUIPMENT WITHIN A CRYOSTAT - A cryostat, comprising an outer vacuum vessel containing cryogenic equipment suspended from the outer vacuum vessel by a number of suspension rods. At least one of the suspension rods is provided with a tensioning and retaining mechanism for holding that suspension rod in tension braced against a suspension bracket). This tensioning and retaining mechanism includes a tubular rod carrier arranged, in use, to pass through a hole or slot in the suspension bracket, the rod carrier having an axial bore through which, in use, the rod may pass; a thread on its outer surface along at least part of its length; and a rod bearing surface for, in use, transmitting force to the rod. This tensioning and retaining mechanism also comprises a tensioning nut threaded onto the thread so as to, in use, brace against the suspension bracket to urge the tubular rod carrier in the direction of the rod bearing surface so as to apply tension to the rod.12-04-2008

20080260380Method of Providing Duplex Optical Communications and Optical Modulator Therefor - Methods of providing duplex free-space optical, communication comprising receiving a time-shift keying (TSK) encoded signal and selectively re-modulating—and optionally retro-reflecting—received TSK pulses so as to transmit an on-off keying (OOK) signal. Related apparatus and signals are also provided.10-23-2008
20080266553Optical Angle Detection - Apparatus and methods for detecting angle of incidence of an optical beam. The apparatus employs two optical detectors, the first of which has placed in front of it a coating or layer which exhibits an angle-dependent optical transmission characteristic distinct from that of the light path in front of the second detector. The difference in a characteristic of the light received at the respective detectors therefore provides an indication of the angle of incidence of the light beam. The angle detector may be used particularly, though not exclusively, in conjunction with free space optical communications systems.10-30-2008

20100086829Electrochemical Cell Stack - A redox fuel stack cell comprises a plurality of essentially similar half-cell frames of molded polymer; interleaved between them are semi-permeable membranes and bipolar plate electrodes. The frames are rectangular, with margins around central voids. At the voids, they have rebates in abutting faces for locating the plate electrodes. At their corners, they have apertures for forming ducts throughout the stack for flow of electrolyte to and from the cell cavities provided by the voids. The frames have electrolyte flow passages open in their faces abutting the frames and leading towards each other. The passages stop short of each other and are surrounded by grooves containing sealing O-rings. Diagonally opposite one of the passages end at openings passing through the frames. The other passages have no openings in the frames, but the frames have openings through them in register with the ends of the passages.04-08-2010
