In a first version the retaining element is at least one haptic. In another version the retaining element is a second ring flexibly attached to the first ring. | 11-06-2008 |
20090137992 | Apparatus and Method for Treating Glaucoma - An irrigating probe for providing a flow of liquid to the trabecular meshwork of the eye has a first, guide prong that contacts the cornea to position a second, irrigator prong proximate the trabecular meshwork. The irrigator prong has at least one outlet port communicating with an internal flow channel which, in turn, communicates with a liquid supply providing a steady or a pulsed flow. | 05-28-2009 |
20090156587 | Eye Medication Formulation with Antibacterial Agent - A formulation for administration to the eye has at least one pharmaceutical agent such as a mydriatic agent, a cycloplegic agent, an anesthetic or a non-steroidal anti-inflammation agent combined with an anti-bacterial agent and a suitable carrier. The formulation can be made for topical or intracameral administration to the eye. | 06-18-2009 |
20100044380 | Wastebasket Liner Holder and Liners - A liner mounting system for receptacles such as wastebaskets allows a flexible liner to be supported within the receptacle without having a portion of the liner draped over the receptacle rim. A liner support is positioned on the inner sidewall of the receptacle near the rim and a support arm engages the liner. In one version the liner support is an integral part of the receptacle. In another version the liner support is attached to a rod which is adjustably supported within the receptacle. A selected number of rods can be sued to adapt the system to the size and configuration of the receptacle. A series of mounting apertures may be formed in the liner to allow the liner to be suspended from the support arm. In another version the liner support is a clamp which accepts a portion of the liner. | 02-25-2010 |
20110092994 | Safety Knife With Curved Guard - A safety knife for ophthalmic surgical procedures has handle to which a blade holder is attached at one end, holding a pre-installed surgical blade. A blade guard is extended and retracted responsive to the movement of an actuator button on the handle. The blade assumes a curved shape as it is extended, to shape itself about and protect the blade. When the guard is retracted it straightens to allow it to slide into the handle, exposing the blade for use. | 04-21-2011 |
20110098536 | ILM Spatula with Malleable Blade - A surgical spatula has a blade with a tip formed with a portion with a first bendable portion beginning at the tip and a second, non-bendable portion extending from the terminus of the first blade portion toward the handle of the spatula. The blade is constructed in such a way as to allow the bending of the bendable portion by exerting very light pressure thereon making it possible for the surgeon to effect such bends during surgery without removing the instrument from the operating field. | 04-28-2011 |
20110166502 | Apparatus and Method for Phacoemulsification - Apparatus and methods for phacoemulsification combine a phacoemulsification needle having an offset feature with a handpiece capable of producing longitudinal motion to create a hybrid phacoemulsification effect that is more efficient than conventional longitudinal handpiece-needle combinations and has been demonstrated under certain conditions to be more efficient than needles used with handpieces providing torsional motion. The phacoemulsification needle is of the type having a hollow passageway that terminates in a straight needle tip formed off-axis from the passageway, allowing the needle tip to move eccentrically when the needle is subjected to torsional or longitudinal vibratory motion. The tip may be flared or may be coextensive with the needle body. The tip may also be angled with respect to the needle body. The aspiration passageway formed through the needle body may be positioned or shaped to be off-axis from the needle body axis. | 07-07-2011 |
20130237993 | Apparatus and Method for Phacoemulsification - Apparatus and methods for phacoemulsification combine a phacoemulsification needle having an offset feature with handpieces capable of producing various vibratory motions using motive systems that produce selected hybrid motions to create a hybrid phacoemulsification effect that is more efficient than conventional longitudinal handpiece-needle combinations and has been demonstrated under certain conditions to be more efficient than needles used with handpieces providing torsional motion. | 09-12-2013 |
20140330283 | Adjustable Surgical Instruments - Surgical instruments for ophthalmic surgery are modified to include a manually bendable portion to allow the position of the operative segment of the instrument to be adjusted during surgery without the use of adjusting tools. In one embodiment the bendable portion is formed by selectively annealing a site on the operative segment of the instrument. Commonly used instruments are then made more useful by allowing the surgeon to make adjustments during surgery to assure comfort and utility. | 11-06-2014 |
20150038977 | Apparatus and method for corneal marking - An instrument for use in aligning an intraocular lens (IOL) comprises a marker ring rotatably held in a yoke attached to an instrument handle. The ring has an upper surface and a lower surface, and an inner surface and an outer surface. In one version, four marking tabs are attached to the ring outer surface, with each tab spaced apart 90° from its immediate neighbors. Each marking tab has a tab extension that extends below the lower ring surface. The ring also has a pair of axis marking tabs attached to the ring inner surface, with one marking tab positioned diametrically opposite the other. Each axis marking tab has a tab extension that extends above the ring upper surface. Each of the marking tab extensions are coated with a suitable coloring agent and are brought into contact with the cornea, preferably with one marking tab positioned at the limbus, to form reference marks on the cornea. The ring is then rotated in the yoke to bring the axis mounting tabs into position to be brought into contact with the cornea. A keratometer is placed on the cornea and the axis mounting tabs are aligned with markings on the keratometer corresponding to a previously-identified steep axis of the comes. When the axis mounting tabs touch the cornea a pair of axis alignment marks are made which are used as a reference line when the IOL is inserted, allowing the IOL to be properly oriented within the capsular bag. | 02-05-2015 |
20150066043 | IOL Injector - An injector for intraocular lenses has a housing and a plunger movable within said housing. An elastomeric sleeve is sized and shaped to fit around a portion of the plunger, providing damping friction opposing the movement of the plunger. The sleeve is sterile and disposable, allowing a new sleeve to be used for each procedure. | 03-05-2015 |
