Video motion estimation - In accordance with some embodiments of the present invention, distortion may be calculated using hardware for purposes of motion estimation. The distortion may be determined in the frequency domain. In some embodiments, a modified Haar wavelet transform may be utilized. The penalty in terms of the number of motion vectors may be determined for each location to achieve better distortion in some embodiments. A look up table may be utilized to determine an acceptable penalty. In some cases, the user can input information about an acceptable penalty. | 07-02-2009

ACTIVATING A DESIGN TEST MODE IN A GRAPHICS CARD HAVING MULTIPLE EXECUTION UNITS - Provided are a method and system for activating a design test mode in a graphics card having multiple execution units. A design test mode is activated in a graphics module comprising multiple execution units coupled to a cache on a bus. The bus is configured to return test instructions from the cache to the execution units in response to a request from one execution unit for the test instructions from the cache in the design test mode. The execution units execute the test instructions during the design test mode. Interrupts are prevented during the design test mode. | 12-11-2008

THREAD QUEUING METHOD AND APPARATUS - In some embodiments, a method includes receiving a request to generate a thread and supplying a request to a queue in response at least to the received request. The method may further include fetching a plurality of instructions in response at least in part to the request supplied to the queue and executing at least one of the plurality of instructions. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a storage medium having stored therein instructions that when executed by a machine result in the method. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes circuitry to receive a request to generate a thread and to queue a request to generate a thread in response at least to the received request. In some embodiments, a system includes circuitry to receive a request to generate a thread and to queue a request to generate a thread in response at least to the received request, and a memory unit to store at least one instruction for the thread. | 12-22-2011

LATENT HEAT STORAGE AND METHOD FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROL OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE - A latent heat storage for an internal combustion engine is described having a crystallizable storage medium for storing heat while utilizing the enthalpy of a melting procedure. The storage medium has a state of supercooled molten mass at ambient temperature. Furthermore, the latent heat storage includes a crystallization nucleus provider for providing a crystallization nucleus in the storage medium, in order to trigger a crystallization of the storage medium to release stored heat in the state of supercooled molten mass. Additionally, an internal combustion engine is provided having such a latent heat storage and a method for temperature control of an internal combustion engine. In a first step of the method, a crystallized storage medium is melted in order to store heat while utilizing the enthalpy of the melting procedure. The storage medium then cools down at most to the ambient temperature and forms a supercooled molten mass in the process. A crystallization nucleus in the storage medium is provided in order to trigger a crystallization of the storage medium to release stored heat in a defined way. | 05-24-2012

Desulfurization of petroleum streams utilizing a multi-ring aromatic alkali metal complex - The present invention relates to a process for removing sulfur from sulfur-containing hydrocarbon streams utilizing a multi-ring aromatic hydrocarbon complex containing an alkali metal ion. Preferably, the sulfur-containing hydrocarbon stream is comprised of high molecular weight hydrocarbons, such as a low API gravity, high viscosity crude, tar sands bitumen, an oil derived from shale, or heavy refinery intermediate stocks such as atmospheric resids or vacuum resids which are typically difficult to desulfurize and contain relatively high amounts of sulfur. However, intermediate refinery streams and refinery product streams may also be treated by the process of the current invention to achieve very low sulfur concentrations to meet environmental specification for fuels sulfur content. | 06-04-2009
EFFICIENT METHOD FOR PREPARING 2,5-DIMETHYLFURAN - The present disclosure provides methods to make liquid fuels from renewable, carbon neutral precursors. Specifically, methods to prepare 2,5-dimethylfuran from a source of fructose or other carbohydrates using a one-pot synthesis are provided. In some embodiments, the disclosed methods avoid the isolation of intermediates, and employ “green” reagents like formic acid and acetic acid. | 10-27-2011
