Engine exhaust treatment system and methods of using the same are also provided. The catalytic material can be provided in layers such that a larger amount of oxygen storage component is provided in a downstream zone as compared to an upstream zone. For example, the upstream zone can be configured to have one, two, or three layers, and the downstream zone can be independently configured to have one, two, or three layers. In one or more embodiments, the catalyst supported on a carrier has three layers, where at least two of the layers are zoned to have an oxygen storage component being present in an upstream zone in an amount that is less than the oxygen storage component present in the downstream zone. | 04-29-2010 |

Methods include creating precious metal-support composites where the precious metal precursor has a solution pH that is compatible an aqueous slurry pH of the support. In one example, a basic precious metal solution having a pH of 7 or greater is mixed with a promoted refractory metal oxide support having an aqueous slurry pH of 7 or greater. On the other hand, an acidic precious metal solution having a pH of less than 7 is mixed with a promoted refractory metal oxide support having an aqueous slurry pH of less than 7. The mixture of the salt and the promoted refractory metal oxide support can be thermally treated at a temperature of at least 180° C. to thermally fix the well-dispersed precious metal on the support. Complex ions of basic solutions and include tetraamine nitrate, tetraamine hydroxide, tetraamine acetate, a primary amine nitrate, a primary amine hydroxide, a primary amine acetate, or combinations thereof. 20090239830 | Treatment of viral infections by modulation of host cell metabolic pathways - Alterations of certain metabolite concentrations and fluxes that occur in response to viral infection are described. Host cell enzymes in the involved metabolic pathways are selected as targets for intervention; i.e., to restore metabolic flux to disadvantage viral replication, or to further derange metabolic flux resulting in “suicide” of viral-infected cells (but not uninfected cells) in order to limit viral propagation. While any of the enzymes in the relevant metabolic pathway can be selected, pivotal enzymes at key control points in these metabolic pathways are preferred as candidate antiviral drug targets. Inhibitors of these enzymes are used to reverse, or redirect, the effects of the viral infection. Drug candidates are tested for antiviral activity using screening assays in vitro and host cells, as well as in animal models. Animal models are then used to test efficacy of candidate compounds in preventing and treating viral infections. The antiviral activity of enzyme inhibitors is demonstrated. | 09-24-2009 |
