20130284859 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING BROKEN RAIL AND OCCUPIED TRACK FROM A RAILWAY VEHICLE - A method is provided for detecting broken rail, unintentionally misaligned turnouts, and track occupancy ahead of or behind a railway vehicle traveling on a railroad track. Shunts extend between the rails at intervals along the railroad track. Each shunt has electrical signal transmission characteristics differing from those of adjacent shunts. A test unit on the railway vehicle induces a test signal in a first rail to create a track circuit in which the test signal propagates along the first rail, through at least one of the shunts, returns to the railway vehicle along the second rail, and through the wheels and axle of the railway vehicle. The test signal has electrical properties selected to interact with at least one of the shunts. The received test signal on the second rail is analyzed to identify predetermined conditions concerning the status of the railroad track. | 10-31-2013 |

20090291426 | EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM FOR PRESENTING ONE OR MORE LEARNING UNITS TO STUDENTS IN DIFFERENT LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS - A computer system that may, for example, be used for educational purposes delivers content, e.g., instructional content, to a plurality of users, e.g., students. The content is presented to such users in units, e.g., learning units. Each unit has associated with it an assessment information relating to each one of the users. One or more systems, e.g., learning systems, present the one or more units to one or more users in a first interactive environment, e.g., a first learning environment, and a second interactive environment, e.g., a second learning environment, that is different from the first interactive environment. A digital rights and asset management application controls access to the content associated with each one of said one or more units according to corresponding unit identifiers, e.g., learning unit identifiers, and presents such content to the plurality of users in the first and second interactive environments for assessment purposes. An assessment application, e.g., a grade book application, stores assessment information derived from presenting the content to said one or more users in the first and second interactive environments, with the unit identifier correlating the assessment information with the units. | 11-26-2009 |
20090311658 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COLLABORATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF ONLINE COURSES AND PROGRAMS OF STUDY - A system and method for developing a course requires a plurality of participants that collaborate over a network, for example, a social network. A database stores an initial framework that defines a sequence of learning units for creating a desired learning environment for students, those learning units made of specifically ordered content objects. The learning units are identified by corresponding learning unit identifiers. A plurality of workstations coupled to the network are used for entry of reviewer information by the participants using the learning environment created for the students. The reviewer information comprise one or more comments entered by one participant about a learning unit or content object and a rank entered by anther participant about the comment, with the rank being correlated with a defined ranking standard. A processor processes the rank according to a predefined criteria to produce a ranking result that is associated with a learning unit identifier. The ranking result is used for associating learning content to the learning unit identified by the learning unit identifier. | 12-17-2009 |

20130279318 | DATA STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL - The invention provides for a recording method comprising the steps of modulating a first light beam; directing a second light beam to interfere with the first light beam to produce an interference pattern in a region of a recording medium; forming an optical device in the medium responsive to the interference pattern, wherein optical characteristics of the optical device are varied responsive to variations in the interference pattern. A method of playback, a recording and/or reading head and data carriers are also claimed. An example relates to a full diffraction analogy of gramophone recording. The interference of two beams, one of which is functionally linked to an audio signal, results in a change of the diffractive structure that instantly reflects the change of the input signal. On playback the diffracted light beam oscillates in the same way as the gramophone needle would vibrate. Another aspect of the disclosure relates to multilevel digital recording using holographic and/or diffractive structures. | 10-24-2013 |

20150039520 | PERSONAL SECURE INFORMATION DEVICE (PSID) - A secure data transmission device: employs a proprietary arrangement of individualized encodable micro-machined electromagnets embedded in a compact, plastic (or apt substrate) which insulates each electromagnet from one another. The electromagnets mimic the magnetic strip on a credit card, but have the capability to temporarily capture data, and then transmit said data to be read by a magstripe terminal. The electromagnetic device can receive, and momentarily capture a variety of data, depending on which digital data is chosen by user. It then converts that data it to an analog signal, and then by using such components as microphone amplifier, a digital-to-analog converter, and microprocessor in the mobile device, transmits that data to the secure information device, which can write that data to a magnetic card terminal. The secure transmission device can be rewritten over and over again each time the user has a separate transaction, using different transaction data. | 02-05-2015 |

20090165927 | Installation Of Cured In Place Liners With Dual Gland Air Inversion And Steam Cure Apparatus - Installation of a flexible cured in place liner by inverting the liner with air and curing the liner with steam introduced through a perforated lay flat hose without deflating the liner between the inversion and cure. The installation is performed with an apparatus having two independently operable glands with at least one fluid inlet port installed on the line downstream of the second gland liner. As the liner reaches the distal end of the conduit to be lined, it enters a sample and porting pipe with an exhaust pipe gland and exhaust pipe and it is pierced by a rigid porting tool. Steam is then introduced into the lay flat hose to cure the resin and is exhausted through an exhaust hose connected to a controllable exhaust pipe. After curing steam is replaced with air to cool the liner, the ends are cut to restore service through the host pipe. | 07-02-2009 |
20090289451 | T-Nut Assembly For Sealing An Existing Connection In A Lined Conduit - A T-nut assembly for reinstating a sealed connection in a lined conduit is provided. The assembly includes a rigid T-nut having a hollow tubular region with an engagement surface at one end and a base with an opening therethrough at the other. The base has a larger diameter than the tubular region. The T-nut includes an integral shoulder around the tubular member at the base and has a larger diameter than the tubular region and less than the base. The outside of the shoulder has a wall extending above the shoulder to form an annular recess at the engagement end. A substantially rigid sealing washer is placed in the annular recess and a compressible gasket is placed on the base about the shoulder. | 11-26-2009 |
20130263443 | AIR INVERSION AND STEAM CURE OF CURED IN PLACE LINERS APPARATUS - An air inversion and steam cure apparatus for installing a flexible resin impregnated cured in place liner in an existing conduit is provided. The apparatus has a low friction seal between a moving liner and the stationary apparatus gland. The gland is operated and adjusted by displaceable members that move substantially perpendicular to the liner being inverted to engage the moving liner as it passes through the gland. No part of the gland extends into the chamber so that once a pre-shaped gland is adjusted, the pressure on the moving liner is not increased. As the liner reaches the distal end, it enters a sample and porting pipe with an exhaust pipe gland and exhaust pipe and is pierced by a rigid porting tool. Steam is then introduced into the liner to cure the resin and is exhausted through an exhaust hose connected to the porting tool. After cure, steam is replaced with air to cool the liner and the ends are cut to restore service through the existing conduit. | 10-10-2013 |
