20090147907Downhole Imaging Tool Utilizing X-Ray Generator - An X-ray downhole imaging tool is provided and includes an X-ray tube capable of operating at least at 50 KeV and emitting at least one hundred micro-amperes of continuous electron current and a radiation detector axially displaced from the X-ray tube, at least partially shielded therefrom and radially directed. In certain embodiments, the radiation detector includes a microchannel plate and a resistive anode. In certain embodiments, a second detector which is axially directed is also provided.06-11-2009
20090161823Apparatus and Method for Fluid Phase Fraction Determination Using R-Rays Optimized for Wet Gas - An apparatus for determining fractional amounts of each phase of a multiple phase fluid includes an x-ray generator includes a sample chamber is configured to admit therein a sample of fluid for analysis. The chamber is disposed in a radiation path output from the generator. A filter is disposed in the radiation path between the output of the generator and the radiation input of the sample chamber. A first radiation detector is positioned in a radiation path from the sample chamber after radiation has passed through the sample chamber. A thickness and a material of the filter are selected to optimize resolution of radiation detected by the first detector to changes in volume fraction of oil and water in the fluid sample when a gas fraction thereof is between about 90 to 100 percent.06-25-2009
20090219028Methods for Controlling Ion Beam and Target Voltage in a Neutron Generator for Improved Performance - A method for operating a pulsed neutron generator includes adjusting a target current of the neutron generator to a preselected value. A parameter related to a neutron output of the neutron generator is measured. A target voltage of the neutron generator is adjusted to maintain the measured parameter within a predetermined range.09-03-2009
20090274276HIGH VOLTAGE X-RAY GENERATOR AND RELATED OIL WELL FORMATION ANALYSIS - An apparatus and method for determining the density and other properties of a formation surrounding a borehole using a high voltage x-ray generator. One embodiment comprises a stable compact x-ray generator capable of providing radiation with energy of 250 keV and higher while operating at temperatures equal to or greater than 125° C. In another embodiment, radiation is passed from an x-ray generator into the formation; reflected radiation is detected by a short spaced radiation detector and a long spaced radiation detector. The output of these detectors is then used to determine the density of the formation. In one embodiment, a reference radiation detector monitors a filtered radiation signal. The output of this detector is used to control at least one of the acceleration voltage and beam current of the x-ray generator.11-05-2009
20100116978GAIN STABILIZATION OF GAMMA-RAY SCINTILLATION DETECTOR - Systems and methods for stabilizing the gain of a gamma-ray spectroscopy system are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, a method of stabilizing the gain of a gamma-ray spectroscopy system may include generating light corresponding to gamma-rays detected from a geological formation using a scintillator having a natural radioactivity, generating an electrical signal corresponding to the light, and stabilizing the gain of the electrical signal based on the natural radioactivity of the scintillator. The scintillator may contain, for example, naturally radioactive elements such as Lutetium or Lanthanum.05-13-2010
20100243877SCINTILLATOR BASED RADIATION DETECTION - Methods and related systems are described for the detection of nuclear radiation. The system can include a tool body adapted to be deployed in a wellbore and a scintillator material that intrinsically generates radiation. The scintillator material is mounted within the tool body. A photodetection system is coupled to the scintillator material, and mounted within the tool body. Features in a spectrum associated with a scintillation material's intrinsic radioactive decay are used for the determination of one or more parameter's of the response function of the radiation detector system.09-30-2010
20100301198INTRINSIC RADIOACTIVITY IN A SCINTILLATOR AS COUNT RATE REFERENCE - Methods and related systems are described for the detection of nuclear radiation. The system can include a scintillator material that intrinsically generates radiation and a photodetection system coupled to the scintillator material and adapted to generate electrical signals based on light emitted from the scintillator material. A processing system adapted and programmed to receive the electrical signals, to generate a count rate reference value based at least in part on electrical signals generated in response to the light emitted from the scintillator material due to the intrinsically generated radiation.12-02-2010
20110002443High Voltage X-Ray Generator and Related Oil Well Formation Analysis Apparatus and Method - An apparatus and method for determining the density and other properties of a formation surrounding a borehole using a high voltage x-ray generator. The output of this detector is used to control at least one of the acceleration voltage and beam current of the x-ray generator.01-06-2011
