20110048887ACTUATION DEVICE HAVING WIPER SEALS FOR A DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION - A dual clutch actuation device generates the axial compression force required to compress a first and second set of frictional elements of a dual clutch module. Dual clutch actuation device includes a first and second annular piston. The annular pistons include a first end that is in contact with annular bearing assemblies. The annular bearing assemblies are in contact with actuation levers that are in contact with the first set of frictional elements. The annular pistons are arranged in concentric annular piston slots. Together the piston and annular slots form annular piston chambers. The piston chambers are filled with hydraulic fluid. The actuation device further includes a first set of wiper seals and a second set of wiper seals disposed in a first and a second annular channel in each of the annular pistons. When the hydraulic fluid is pressurized the pistons slide out of the annular slots and apply a force on the actuation levers which in turn apply an axial compression force on the frictional elements. Advantageously, contamination of the piston chambers is reduced or eliminated through the wiping or cleansing action of the first and second set of wiper seals against walls of the annular slots formed in the housing of the actuation device.03-03-2011
20110053697DUAL CLUTCH FOR A TRANSMISSION HAVING MULTIPLE INPUT SHAFTS - A device for transmitting torque between a flywheel rotatably connected to an engine and a dual clutch transmission. The device includes a first substantially u-shaped member fixed to a perimeter of a dual clutch of the dual clutch transmission. The first substantially u-shaped member defines a slot having an open end. The second substantially u-shaped member is attached to a perimeter of the flywheel. The second substantially u-shaped member includes a support member for supporting an engagement member. The first substantially u-shaped member fits at least partially within the second substantially u-shaped member. The pair of bushings disposed proximate the engagement member between the first and second coupling members. The engagement member of the second substantially u-shaped member is configured to engage the open end of the slot of the first substantially u-shaped member and align the first substantially u-shaped member with the second substantially u-shaped member thereby transferring torque between the flywheel and the dual clutch transmission.03-03-2011

20120078480METHOD OF COOLING A DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION - A method of cooling a dual clutch transmission is provided. The transmission has first and second input clutches alternately engagable to transfer torque to an output member along first and second input shafts, respectively, at various speed ratios dependent upon engagement of synchronizers. The method includes determining a currently established speed ratio by determining which of the input clutches and synchronizers are currently engaged and which of the input clutches and synchronizers are currently open. One of the open synchronizers is then engaged during the currently established speed ratio to cause the open input clutch to rotate at a speed greater than the speed of rotation of the engaged input clutch, thereby creating a fan cooling effect.03-29-2012
20130060436SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING LOADS ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION BASED ON A SELECTED GEAR OF THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION - A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a selected gear module and a shift indicator module. The selected gear module determines a selected gear of a manual transmission. The shift indicator module monitors vehicle speed and the selected gear and generates a shift indicator signal based on the vehicle speed and the selected gear, the shift indicator signal indicating when to shift to one of first gear and reverse gear.03-07-2013
20130080001SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING LOADS ON A DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL ATTACHED TO AN ENGINE BASED ON ENGINE SPEED - A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes an engine speed module and a downshift indicator module. The engine speed module determines an engine speed when a clutch is engaged with a dual mass flywheel. The downshift indicator module generates a downshift indicator signal when the engine speed is less than a first speed, the downshift indicator signal indicating when to downshift a manual transmission.03-28-2013

20080221683ORTHOPAEDIC IMPLANTS HAVING SELF-LUBRICATED ARTICULATING SURFACES DESIGNED TO REDUCE WEAR, CORROSION, AND ION LEACHING - Mechanical devices such as prosthetic knees, hips, shoulders, fingers, elbows, wrists, ankles, fingers and spinal elements when implanted in the body and used as articulating elements are subjected to wear and corrosion. These prosthetic implants are usually fabricated in modular form from combinations of metallic materials such as stainless steels, Co—Cr—Mo alloys, and Ti—Al—V alloys; plastics such as ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE); and ceramics such as alumina and zirconia. As the articulating surfaces of these materials wear and corrode, products including plastic wear debris, metallic wear particles, and metallic ions will be released into the body, transported to and absorbed by bone, blood, the lymphatic tissue, and other organ systems. The polyethylene wear particles have been shown to produce long term bone loss and loosening of the implant. And, even very low concentrations of metallic wear particles and metallic ions are suspect in causing adverse toxic, inflammatory, and immunologic tissue reactions. This invention provides prosthetic implants having articulating surfaces that exhibit a reduced rate of release of wear debris and metal ions into the body and a method of producing such prosthetic implants.09-11-2008

20130091763Processing for preparation of Boron Nanoparticles - The invention relates to a method for providing boron nanoparticles, characterised in that it comprises at least the following steps: synthesising a boron/lithium LiB intermetallic compound by reacting a mixture of boron and lithium in a reactor, preferably under a vacuum and temperature of 650° C.; transferring and hydrolysing the boron/lithium intermetallic compound in order to produce boron nanoparticles, by immersion in a bath containing water at ambient temperature, under a neutral gas atmosphere such as argon; and separating the boron nanoparticles, especially by tangential filtration, from the other compounds produced by the hydrolysis reaction. The invention also relates to the use of boron nanoparticles.04-18-2013
