System and Method to Enforce Excessive Engine Idle Control - A system and method for engine idle control enforcement is provided. According to one embodiment, a vehicle is monitored to determine whether it has moved a particular distance over a period of time or is moving at a particular speed. The monitoring can be accomplished using, for example, a GPS capable device. A determination can be made based on the vehicle distance or speed over a period of time as to whether the vehicle is in idle. When a determination is made that the vehicle is idle, an activation of one or more relay switches can occur to kill the engine and/or disable the starter. A park gear signal can be used as a safety mechanism to avoid killing the engine when the vehicle is determined to not be in park. In one embodiment, in order to reengage the vehicle's engine, the turnkey must be moved to the OFF position before turning the ignition ON. | 12-23-2010

Agent security via approximate solvers - Efficient heuristic methods are described for approximating the optimal leader strategy for security domains where threats come from unknown adversaries. These problems can be modeled as Bayes-Stackelberg games. An embodiment of the heuristic method can include defining a patrolling or security domain problem as a mixed-integer quadratic program. The mixed-integer quadratic program can be converted to a mixed-integer linear program. For a single follower (e.g., robber or terrorist) scenario, the mixed-integer linear program can be solved, subject to appropriate constraints. For embodiments applicable to multiple follower situations, the relevant mixed-integer quadratic program and related mixed-integer linear program can be decomposed, e.g., by changing the response function for the follower from a pure strategy to a weighted combination over various pure follower strategies where the weights are probabilities of occurrence of each of the follower types. | 05-07-2009

DECOMPOSED OPTIMAL BAYESIAN STACKELBERG SOLVER - Techniques are described for Stackelberg games, in which one agent (the leader) must commit to a strategy that can be observed by other agents (the followers or adversaries) before they choose their own strategies, in which the leader is uncertain about the types of adversaries it may face. Such games are important in security domains, where, for example, a security agent (leader) must commit to a strategy of patrolling certain areas, and robbers (followers) have a chance to observe this strategy over time before choosing their own strategies of where to attack. An efficient exact algorithm is described for finding the optimal strategy for the leader to commit to in these games. This algorithm, Decomposed Optimal Bayesian Stackelberg Solver or “DOBSS,” is based on a novel and compact mixed-integer linear programming formulation. The algorithm can be implemented in a method, software, and/or system including computer or processor functionality. | 04-16-2009

FLY-FISHING REEL - A fly-fishing reel is provided for rewinding a fishing line on a spool, whose movement is limited, in at least one sense, by a braking mechanism. The fly-fishing reel includes a self-supporting structure and a spool. The self-supporting structure includes a central axis which bears on it the braking mechanism, which includes a first lateral containing ring, a brake ring concentrically arranged within an adjustment track or ring, and a second lateral containing ring. The brake ring is a split ring defining a guide slot along which a braking adjustment member is displaced. The braking adjustment member expands or contracts the brake ring. A blocking member is also concentrically mounted on the adjustment track or ring, which is in turn arranged without a relative sliding among them within the spool. | 12-11-2008

METHOD OF USING AN AIRCRAFT BRAKE ASSEMBLY CONTAINER - A method for using an aircraft brake assembly in servicing an aircraft, with the container having at least two identical container portions, at least one of the at least two container portions having an at least one sliding channel therein, an at least one cradle member having an at least one sliding portion engaging with said at least one sliding channel holding the cargo in a horizontal orientation, and at least one securement device securing the at least two identical container portions. The method having the method steps of transporting an aircraft brake assembly container to said aircraft undercarriage, the container comprising at least two container portions, with a first of the at least two container portions supporting a new brake assembly; opening the container, rotating a second of the at least two container portions; aligning the second of the at least two container portions with the aircraft undercarriage and a used aircraft brake assembly; releasing the used aircraft brake assembly into the second of the at least two container portions; removing the second of the at least two container portions along with the used aircraft brake assembly; aligning the first of the at least two container portions with the aircraft undercarriage; installing the new brake assembly; and replacing the first of the at least two container portions atop the second of the at least two container portions. | 06-17-2010

PHOTOBIOREACTOR SYSTEM - A space efficient photo-bioreactor. The bioreactor grows microalgae in a tall array of transparent flooded tubes. A nutrient media is circulated through the tubes. The array is configured to maximize the amount of sunlight falling upon each tube so that growth of the microalgae is as uniform as possible. Gassing/degassing systems are attached to the array of tubes at appropriate locations. These introduce carbon dioxide and remove oxygen. Cooling systems are preferably also provided so that the circulating media can be maintained at a desired temperature. Microalgae are harvested from the photo-bioreactor. The microalgae is filtered and dried. Lipids are then extracted from the microalgae. These lipids are made into biodiesel through a trans-esterification process. The lipids may be used to make other products as well. | 04-12-2012

METHOD FOR PURIFICATION OF POLYETHER POLYMERS AND MIXTURES RESULTING THEREFROM - A method for the purification of aromatic polyether polymers prepared by a halide displacement polymerization process comprises adsorbing the catalyst with an alkali metal halide to form an adsorbent component and then removing the adsorbent component. Mixtures resulting from this method are also discussed. | 06-25-2009

Universal Hydraulic Binder Based On Fly Ash Type F - The present invention concerns the development of a simple, multipurpose, low cost, environmental friendly and safe binder formulation and related process, based on high volumes of alkaline activated class F fly ash residue (>760%) without ordinary Portland cement and related products, offering a wide scope of applications. More specifically, the universal binder is based on a very limited number of components (fly ash type F, Blast Furnace Slag and a mixture of alkali silicates and carbonates). The binder allows developing considerable strength at the early stage (at room temperature) and very high resistances at 28 days. The binder applies to pastes, mortars concretes and pre-cast with the same flexibility of an Ordinary Portland Cement. | 09-03-2009

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR REAL-TIME MONITORING OF CADMIUM ION DURING SOLUTION GROWTH OF CADMIUM SULFIDE THIN FILMS - The present invention provides a reaction chamber to monitor a metal ion in solution during the formation of a metal-sulfide layer on a substrate. The reaction chamber houses a solution of an ammonium ion, a metal ion and a buffer. The reaction chamber includes an anion-selective electrode in the solution to monitor the metal ion that measures the metal ion during metal-ammonium complex formation, metal-thiourea complex formation, metal sulfide composition formation, metal sulfide layer formation or a combination thereof. | 03-08-2012
