Cylindrical abrasive surfaces are desirable when a curvature of a fixed radius is desired, or where accuracy of the curvature radius is required. Conic or semi-conic surfaces may be used to enable a user, by means of short sharpening strokes, to achieve an approximate desired curvature among a range of possible curvatures provided along the length of the abrasive surface as the curvature radius progressively declines.
