20080205475UNSTABLE RESONATOR WITH VARIABLE OUTPUT COUPLING - Through the use of a relatively inexpensive third mirror on a novel folded hybrid unstable resonator configuration, the optimum output coupling for a given laser design can be explored quickly and easily with a minimum of intracavity mirror alignment. No changes in either the radii of curvature of the three cavity optics or their spacing are required for this exploration. In addition to providing techniques for purposefully and systematically introducing mirror edge effects or avoiding edges effects altogether, the invention provides that output beams of different width can be advantageously explored in a relatively simple and straightforward manner. The invention provides that higher geometric magnification cavity designs may be made compatible with low diffraction output coupling in a configuration that uses only three totally reflecting optics.08-28-2008
20090052010Apparatus for providing multiple independently controllable beams from a single laser output beam and delivering the multiple beams via optical fibers - An output beam from a laser is directed into an acousto-optic cell. The acousto-optic cell is driven by RF voltages at four different frequencies. A portion of the laser output beam is diffracted by the acousto-optic cell at four different angles to the laser output beam. This provides four secondary beams. The magnitude of the RF voltages applied to the acousto-optic cell and the power in the laser output beam may be cooperatively varied to provide a predetermined power in each of the secondary beams. The four secondary beams are directed into four beam separating optical fibers connected to four transport optical fibers for transporting the secondary beams to a location remote from the laser. Power in the beams is monitored at the output ends of the four optical fibers for controlling the magnitude of the RF voltages. All four beams are focused into the beam-separating fibers by a single lens.02-26-2009
20090065697Sub-millimeter wave frequency heterodyne detector system - The present invention relates to sub-millimeter wave frequency heterodyne imaging systems. More specifically, the present invention relates to a sub-millimeter wave frequency heterodyne detector system for imaging the magnitude and phase of transmitted power through or reflected power off of mechanically scanned samples at sub-millimeter wave frequencies.03-12-2009
20090244691APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING MULTIPLE TIME-DIVISION MULTIPLEXED INDEPENDENTLY CONTROLLABLE PULSED BEAMS FROM A SINGLE, PULSED LASER OUTPUT-BEAM - An output beam from a laser is directed into an acousto-optic cell. The laser beam includes repeated sequences of two or more pulses. The acousto-optic cell is sequentially driven by RF voltages at two or more frequencies. A portion of the laser output beam is diffracted by the acousto-optic cell at two or more different angles to the laser output beam. This provides two or more secondary beams. One of the secondary beams includes only the first pulses of the sequences; the other includes only the second pulses of the sequences. The duration of the pulses in the laser beam is controlled to control time-averaged power in the secondary beams.10-01-2009

20120032006PELLETIZING - A continuous length of material of non-circular cross-section is pelletized to form discrete bits, by feeding the material to a cutting wheel with shaped cutters that form non-planar bits having non-circular axial projections and that are aligned with the material. The material is fed so as to maintain a rotational orientation with respect to the cutters, and so as to avoid buckling. Multiple banks of strands of material are severed simultaneously, thereby producing high volumes of shaped bits that are useful as filling and as filter material, and as friction-enhancing additives.02-09-2012

20100072354TRUE COINCIDENCE SUMMING CORRECTION AND TOTAL EFFICIENCY COMPUTATION FOR RADIONUCLIDE SPECTROSCOPY ANALYSIS - A method, system, and software for calculating the true coincidence summing effects for radionuclide spectroscopy analysis. A set of equations which can be implemented with a stored computer program performs calculations to correct the spectroscopic analysis data for gamma-gamma coincidence events, gamma-X-ray coincidence events, as well as gamma-annihilation photon coincidence events. The net gamma-ray, KX-ray and annihilation photon summing-out probabilities for the analytic gamma-ray is the total summing-out probability from all gamma-ray summing-out chains subtracted by the total summing-out probability from all gamma-ray sub-cascade chains involving the analytic gamma-ray. A total efficiency calculation is performed to eliminate the need for using radioactive sources to create summing specific calibration measurements and for increased accuracy.03-25-2010
