20080196619Anti-Corrosion Pigments Coming Form Dust Of An Electric Arc Furnace And Containing Sacrificial Calcum - An anticorrosion ferrite-based pigment, derived from a hydrometallurgical purification process of EAF dust. EAF dust is generated in an electric arc furnace for carbon steel production by processing scrap metal, direct reduced iron and/or pre-reduced hematite, and using CaO-rich slag; from a condensation reaction of metals vapours of Fe, or Zn and of Mn, Mg, Si and/or Al, and suspended CaO particles and oxygen. The pigment contains a non-toxic amount of lead, and includes condensed metal oxides, comprising ferrites MOFe2θ3, M being Zn, Fe, Mn and Mg, and combinations thereof. The condensed oxides have ferrite structures preserved from the EAF dust, and form aggregates thereof. The pigment includes CaO entrapped by the ferrite structures and being partially available to react with humid air and/or water to protect the substrate against corrosion. The pigments are coated or uncoated. They are used for antifouling or paint formulations.08-21-2008

20100146770METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A BARBED SURGICAL SUTURE - A barbed surgical suture is configured to grip the tissue through which it is inserted. The suture has a generally flat and elongated suture body with a multiplicity of barbs located along one or both of the lateral edges. The barbs are of sufficient size and appropriate geometry for fastening the tissue and achieving closure of an incision or wound without the need for tying knots in the suture. The barbed surgical suture may be configured as a single-ended suture with all of the barbs aligned to allow the suture to move through tissue in one direction only. Alternately, it may be configured as a double-ended suture with the barbs on a first end portion aligned to allow the suture to move through tissue in a one direction and the barbs on a second end portion aligned to allow the suture to move through tissue in the opposite direction. The suture needles may be permanently attached or removably attached to the barbed surgical suture or, alternatively, the suture needle may be integrally formed with the barbed surgical suture. Methods are described for manufacturing the barbed surgical suture by stamping, cutting or progressive die cutting the suture out of flat material, or by chemically etching the suture out of flat material and or by injection molding. Optionally, specialized coatings may be added to enhance the performance of the barbed surgical suture.06-17-2010

20120022729SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FORECASTING THE COMPOSITION OF AN OUTBOUND TRAIN IN A SWITCHYARD - A system for forecasting the outbound workload in a switchyard. The system has a processing entity for which receives information on railcar traffic for handling by the switchyard, wherein the railcar traffic includes railcars that are yet to be switched into classification tracks of the switchyard. For every departure train of two or more departure trains, the processing entity applies logic rules to the information to compute a forecast of railcar traffic that will be available to the departure train for transport out of the switchyard. An output releases data derived from the forecast of railcar traffic, describing the traffic available for each train of the two or more departure trains.01-26-2012
