20120033686ALL-GAIN GUIDING YB-DOBED FEMTOSECOND FIBER LASER - A mode-locked fiber laser system is presented with an improved optical cavity structure having a lower doped and longer gain medium. The laser system comprises: a laser source operable to produce a light beam; an optical cavity structure operable to amplify a light beam propagating therethrough; and a beam splitter operable to output the amplified light beam from the optical cavity. The optical cavity includes a single-mode fiber section and a gain fiber section doped with a lanthanide element, such as erbium or ytterbium, where the ratio between length of the gain fiber section to a total length of the cavity structure is greater than 1:5. By increasing length of the gain medium, peak power of the generated pulse is increased while keeping the nonlinear phase shift constant to avoid optical wave breaking.02-09-2012

20110150030THERMAL SENSORS HAVING FLEXIBLE SUBSTRATES AND USE THEREOF - Methods and apparatuses for Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) resonator to monitor the platform temperature. Fabricating the resonator on a relatively low cost flexible polymer substrate rather than silicon provides mechanical flexibility as well as design flexibility with respect to sensor placement. Sensor readout and control circuits can be on silicon if desired, for example, a positive feedback amplifier to form an oscillator in conjunction with the resonator and a counter to count oscillator frequency.06-23-2011

20080238373FAST FIELD DISCHARGE FOR GENERATOR OVER-VOLTAGE CONTROL - A voltage regulator for controlling over-voltage conditions in an electrical generator by rapidly discharging the generator field winding current into a discharge resistor upon the detection of the over-voltage. A field discharge transistor is switched by a soft switching circuit to direct the generator field winding current to the discharge resistor. A hysteresis circuit detects when a point of regulation voltage exceeds a first threshold triggering the discharge of the generator field winding current. The hysteresis circuit also detects when the point of regulation voltage goes below a second lower threshold and triggers the field discharge transistor to bypass the discharge resistor and return to a normal mode.10-02-2008
20080259509RESONANCE FIELD DISCHARGE - A field discharge circuit may rapidly reduce the field current of a generator, thereby avoiding an overvoltage condition. The field discharge circuit of the present invention may use another storage device, such as a capacitor, to quickly transfer the field current energy thereto and then slowly dissipate the transferred energy after the event (such as removal of a load) has passed. By transferring this energy to a storage device and subsequently slowly discharging this energy through a resistor, electromagnetic interference caused by a conventional resistive discharge can be reduced.10-23-2008
20090225571MITIGATION OF UNBALANCED INPUT DC FOR INVERTER APPLICATIONS - Mitigating the DC content of an AC output from an inverter is important for electrical system reliability. The inverter may be powered by unbalanced DC inputs while still mitigating the DC content of the AC output wavefrom. The present invention provides methods to mitigate the DC content in the output DC voltage by reshaping the PWM reference signals (carrier signals) according to the DC content in such a way that the DC content is canceled. These reshaped PWM reference signals may be, for example, unsymmetrical reference waveforms. Unlike conventional methods for providing an AC voltage from a DC voltage with an inverter, which may result in DC content in the output AC voltage when an unbalanced DC input voltage is supplied, the present invention provides methods for mitigating the DC content in an AC voltage, even if the inverter providing the AC voltage is supplied with unbalanced DC voltage.09-10-2009

20130021915SYSTEMS, METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR RADIO UPLINK POWER CONTROL - In some implementations of the present invention, improvement of connection quality and reduction of dropped connection rate are achieved by suspending the transmission of High Speed Dedicated Physical Control Channel (HS-DPCCH) data when a wireless terminal detects a power limiting mode during multi-radio access bearer (MRAB) connections and voice RAB is present, and correspondingly increasing uplink transmission power to voice and signaling data channels. In some implementations, the suspension of HS-DPCCH data can be complete or partial. When fully suspended, no data is sent on the HS-DPCCH. When partially suspended, no channel quality indicator (CQI) is transmitted. In both partial and full suspension schemes, the CQI transmission is suspended until the terminal detects that entry conditions to this state has been terminated.01-24-2013

20100069091MULTI-USERS/MULTI-SERVICES PAGING FOR LOCATION BASED SERVICES - A paging technique for location-based services is provided to improve the paging resources of networks. Aspects relate to a multi-users/multi-services page that enables a multitude of users in a location area to, at substantially the same time, receive a single paging message for several location-based services. The disclosed aspects enable point-of-multi-services-broadcast to/from multiple-point-with-multi-services-decoding. A mobile device can decode the broadcast messages in connected/dedicated mode carried on the shared channels after successfully decoding the broadcast paging indicator portion of the paging changes. Multiple shared channels in connected modes can be transmitted, each carrying a different set of services.03-18-2010
20110044263SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DOWNLINK OUTER LOOP POWER CONTROL FOR HSUPA - The described aspects relate to systems and methods for power control in wireless communication systems. In particular, the described aspects relate to dynamically providing, based on activities on HSUPA channels, a downlink power control adjustment during a data transmission from a user equipment device to a base station or node B device in a HSUPA communication system. The method determines a Signal-to-Interference Ratio (SIR) target for the Enhanced Transport Channel (E-DCH) based on a transmitter's logic that determines the required power level of the downlink grant control channels. This target can then apply to the final target determined on a plurality of other transport channels for the receiver to adjust the power of its downlink channels.02-24-2011
