20090003252SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONSERVING POWER FOR A WIRELESS DEVICE WHILE MAINTAINING A CONNECTION TO A NETWORK - The invention relates to a system and a method for selectively reducing power consumption of a communication device communicating with a network is provided. In the method, it comprises the following steps: de-activating at least one communication subsystem of the device during intervals when the device is placed in a power save mode; and while the device is in the power save mode the method re-activates the subsystem in two instances. For the first instance, the communication subsystem is re-activated in relation to a first connection condition, and is then de-activated after a first event. For the second instance, the subsystem is re-activated in relation to a second connection condition and is then de-activated after a second event.01-01-2009
20090003278SYSTEM AND METHOD OF COMMUNICATING WITH A FIRST AND SECOND NETWORK BY A COMMUNICATION DEVICE - The invention relates to a system and method for maintaining a first connection to a first network and a second connection to a second network by a communication device. The method comprises: conducting a first activity to maintain or establish the first connection in a series of spaced, timed segments, such that the segments represent a timeframe of an original activity that would span a continuous period that would cause a transmission conflict with the second connection; and conducting a second activity for the second network only between two of consecutive segments of the series of segments. The first network may be a 802.11-class network; the first activity may be a beacon scan for a channel of the 802.11-class network; the second network may be a Bluetooth network; and the second activity may be transmission of an Advanced Audio Distribution Profile data to a second device through the Bluetooth network.01-01-2009
20090279492Methods And Apparatus For Use In Facilitating Access To A Communication Service Via A WLAN Hotspot - A mobile communication device identifies and selects a wireless local area network (WLAN) available for communications in its coverage area. Automatically, without detecting any requests made by a user via a browser application. The mobile device initiates a request (e.g. an HTTP GET request) to a predetermined server site of a communication network which is outside of the WLAN. In response to initiating the request, the mobile device receives a response message via the WLAN and identifies, from the response message, whether the request to the predetermined server site has been redirected to a redirect server site. The WLAN may be a WLAN “hotspot,” where the redirect server site is a login server. The identifying may be performed by comparing content from the response message to predetermined content of the predetermined server site. In response to identifying that the request has been redirected, the mobile device causes an indication to be produced at its user interface. Access to a communication service (such as a “push”-data service) may be subsequently expediently obtained.11-12-2009
20110082939METHODS AND APPARATUS TO PROXY DISCOVERY AND NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN NETWORK ENTITIES TO ESTABLISH PEER-TO-PEER COMMUNICATIONS - A method for peer to peer communications is provided. The method includes receiving first set of information containing capabilities for a peer-to-peer communication. The method further includes communicating the first information to facilitate a peer-to-peer communication. The method includes utilizing a intermediary node to convey the capabilities and to further update the information/capabilities as the information changes over time.04-07-2011
20110082940METHODS AND APPARATUS TO ESTABLISH PEER-TO-PEER COMMUNICATIONS - A method and device for peer-to-peer communications is provided. The method includes communication of the capabilities of a device to another device or network component. A peer to peer communication is established based on at least one of the capabilities of the device. The method may also include utilizing a control point or access point in conveying the capabilities of the device to another device.04-07-2011
20110222520ADVERTISEMENT OF QUALITY OF SERVICE (QoS) INFORMATION FOR NETWORK MANAGEMENT TRAFFICE IN A WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK (WLAN) - An access point advertises a management frame quality of service (MFQ) policy that defines an access category used for transmitting a first type of management frame. Each mobile station associated with the access point is to prioritize transmission of management frames according to the MFQ policy advertised by the access point, unless a policy configuration request for the mobile station to prioritize transmission of management frames according to a different MFQ policy has been accepted.09-15-2011
20110225272NEGOTIATION OF QUALITY OF SERVICE (QoS) INFORMATION FOR NETWORK MANAGEMENT TRAFFIC IN A WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK (WLAN) - An access point advertises a management frame quality of service (MFQ) policy that defines an access category used for transmitting a first type of management frame. Each mobile station associated with the access point is to prioritize transmission of management frames according to the MFQ policy advertised by the access point, unless a policy configuration request for the mobile station to prioritize transmission of management frames according to a different MFQ policy has been accepted.09-15-2011
20110238824Wireless Local Area Network Hotspot Registration - A wireless local area network ‘WLAN’ client device that has just connected to a WLAN detects that the WLAN is offered by a hotspot, where access to a public network is provided by the WLAN via a gateway. A browser application of the WLAN client device is launched, either automatically or in response to receiving an indication via a user input element of the WLAN client device to register at the hotspot. The browser application is launched with an Internet Protocol address that ought to trigger an Internet Protocol filtering rule of the gateway.09-29-2011
