20100020646Ultrasonic transducer with improved method of beam angle control - An ultrasonic transducer utilizes an acoustic transmission line to increase the sensitivity of both the transmitting response and the receiving response. The resonant element of the transducer could employ a ceramic disc operating in the radial resonance mode for its transduction means, or it could be a half wavelength resonator utilizing a forward transmission line, a rear transmission line, and a non-resonant ceramic for transduction. The shape of the forward transmission line is designed to generate the desired acoustic radiation pattern at the frequency of resonance, which could be a broad or narrow conical beam or a fan shaped beam. A sealed housing structure is disclosed that contains the forward transmission line that is acoustically disconnected from the rest of the housing. This housing provides improved environmental protection and allows for easy mounting of the transducer without effecting its electroacoustic response characteristics.01-28-2010
20100208553Hidden ultrasonic transducer with beam angle control for non-contact target detection systems - An ultrasonic transducer utilizes a unique forward acoustic transmission line comprised of a composite structure partially consisting of a portion of a continuous smooth sheet of material, such as an automobile bumper, from which the acoustic beam is emitted. This makes it invisible to sight, thus allowing for an improved object detection system in which the sensors cannot be seen, so that they do not interfere with the smooth lines that were designed into the surface of the object or vehicle onto which they are mounted. This is a significant improvement for applications where the look and style of the surface of the platform is important, such as in automotive park assist systems.08-19-2010

20080290990UNIVERSAL HANDS FREE KEY AND LOCK SYSTEM AND METHOD - Methods and systems are provided for a universal key that enables a user to have access to any type of secured portal, both physical and electronic, in a wireless, hands-free, distance-independent manner without requiring contact or line of sight access between the key and the secured portal. The universal key is not distance-dependent, and each secured portal can be provided with its own prescribed activation range, if desired. Some portals may be provided with long range activation, such as 50 feet, while other portals may be provided with short range activation of a few feet or less. The type of portal being secured and the range of activation may be selected by the user and is not limited by the universal key. In addition, the universal key will provide access to the secured portals in a hands-free fashion so that the user need not push any buttons or take any other action in order to obtain access to the portal. The user need only carry the universal key somewhere on their person in order to access the portal.11-27-2008

20100250750CONSISTENT CLUSTER OPERATIONAL DATA IN A SERVER CLUSTER USING A QUORUM OF REPLICAS - A method and system for increasing server cluster availability by requiring at a minimum only one node and a quorum replica set of replica members to form and operate a cluster. Replica members maintain cluster operational data. A cluster operates when one node possesses a majority of replica members, which ensures that any new or surviving cluster includes consistent cluster operational data via at least one replica member from the immediately prior cluster. Arbitration provides exclusive ownership by one node of the replica members, including at cluster formation, and when the owning node fails. Arbitration uses a fast mutual exclusion algorithm and a reservation mechanism to challenge for and defend the exclusive reservation of each member. A quorum replica set algorithm brings members online and offline with data consistency, including updating unreconciled replica members, and ensures consistent read and update operations.09-30-2010

20100095017SCALABLE AND DYNAMIC QUALITY OF SERVICE CONTROL - Applications and users dynamically make QoS provisioning requests for individual traffic flows traversing client and server hosts. A traffic flow provisioning request is conveyed to a services manager, which determines a set of traffic attributes for the flow and determines the networks the flow traverses between the client and server hosts. The services manger then oversees the admission of the flow to appropriate traffic classes in each determined network and the obtaining of a DSCP value for each network. Lastly, the services manger conveys the DSCP value of the first network traversed back to the client or server host, depending on the direction of the flow, which host is then configured to appropriately mark the DSCP field of the traffic flow packets. In a further embodiment, the services manager also instructs the client or server host to perform packet policing and shaping for the flow.04-15-2010
