20100277691Methods for Diagnosing Glaucoma Utilizing Combinations of FD-OCT Measurements from Three Anatomical Regions of the Eye - This invention discloses methods and systems for diagnosing glaucoma by combining diagnostic parameters derived from optical coherence tomography images of three different anatomic regions of the eye, including the macular ganglion cell complex (mGCC), the peripapillary nerve fiber layer (ppNFL), and the optic nerve head (ONH). The combined diagnostic parameters form a reduced set of global parameters, which are then fed to pre-trained machine classifiers as input to arrive at a single diagnostic indicator for glaucoma. Also disclosed are methods for training a machine classifier to be used in methods and systems of this invention.11-04-2010

20090115635DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION OF RUNNING VEHICLES BASED ON ACOUSTIC SIGNATURES - A method and apparatus for identifying running vehicles in an area to be monitored using acoustic signature recognition. The apparatus includes an input sensor for capturing an acoustic waveform produced by a vehicle source, and a processing system. The waveform is digitized and divided into frames. Each frame is filtered into a plurality of gammatone filtered signals. At least one spectral feature vector is computed for each frame. The vectors are integrated across a plurality of frames to create a spectro-temporal representation of the vehicle waveform. In a training mode, values from the spectro-temporal representation are used as inputs to a Nonlinear Hebbian learning function to extract acoustic signatures and synaptic weights. In an active mode, the synaptic weights and acoustic signatures are used as patterns in a supervised associative network to identify whether a vehicle is present in the area to be monitored. In response to a vehicle being present, the class of vehicle is identified. Results may be provided to a central computer.05-07-2009

20110108912METHODS FOR FABRICATING TRENCH METAL OXIDE SEMICONDUCTOR FIELD EFFECT TRANSISTORS - A method for fabricating a cellular trench metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) includes depositing a first photoresist atop a first epitaxial (epi) layer to pattern a trench area, depositing a second photoresist atop a first gate conductor layer to pattern a mesa area, etching away part of the first gate conductor layer in the mesa area to form a second gate conductor layer with a hump, and titanizing crystally the second gate conductor layer to form a Ti-gate conductor layer. Edges of the mesa area are aligned to edges of the trench area. Hence, approximately more than half of polysilicon in the second gate conductor layer is titanized crystally. A spacer can be formed to protect corners of the first gate conductor layer and to make the gate conductor structure more robust for mechanical support.05-12-2011

20090312033MASHUP APPLICATION AND SERVICE FOR WIRELESS DEVICES - Described is a technology, such as implemented as social networking groupware application designed for mobile device users, that provides a data mashup service for various data types, including location dependent and mobility-aware data such as GPS location and surrounding maps. A mobile user may track the location and maps of roaming friends at runtime. To this end, a client device joins a squad of client devices that are each capable of communicating with one another over a wireless local area network (WLAN) connection. When in a squad, the client can obtain data for use as mashup information from other client devices in the squad over the WLAN connection (inter-squad). This may include intra-squad data that was obtained from a service based on information that the service received from another squad, e.g., over a WWAN connection.12-17-2009

20100160153MAKING ELECTROCATALYST SUPPORTS FOR FUEL CELLS - Titanium oxide (usually titanium dioxide) catalyst support particles are doped for electronic conductivity and formed with surface area-enhancing pores for use, for example, in electro-catalyzed electrodes on proton exchange membrane electrodes in hydrogen/oxygen fuel cells. Suitable compounds of titanium and a dopant are dispersed with pore-forming particles in a liquid medium. The compounds are deposited as a precipitate or sol on the pore-forming particles and heated to transform the deposit into crystals of dopant-containing titanium dioxide. If the heating has not decomposed the pore-forming particles, they are chemically removed from the, now pore-enhanced, the titanium dioxide particles06-24-2010

More specifically, an interpenetrating network of metal oxide nanowires and an interpenetrating network of electrically conductive nanowires may form a composite film having a hierarchal porous structure. This hierarchically porous, interpenetrating network structure can provide the composite film with high capacitance, electrical conductivity and excellent rate performance. The present invention can be generalized towards other capacitor composites, opening a new avenue for a large spectrum of device applications.09-29-2011
20110274682METHODS FOR PROTEASE ASSISTED PROTEIN DELIVERY - A method for intracellular delivery of single proteins or other cargo molecules by encapsulation within nanocapsules formed by interfacial polymerization of one or more types of monomers and selected protease cleavable cross-linkers is provided. The thin positively charged capsules are readily brought into the cytosol of target cells by endocytosis. The capsules are degraded by the action of endogenous proteases or co-delivered proteases on the cross-linkers releasing the functional cargo unaltered. The cross-linkers can be adapted to be cleavable by specific enzymes selected from available intracellular enzymes within the target cell or co-delivered or self-cleaving when the cargo itself is a protease. The nanocapsules produced by the methods have been shown to have long-term stability, high cell penetration capability, low toxicity and efficient protease-modulated specific degradability without affecting cargo protein function.11-10-2011
20120001357MAKING NANOCRYSTALLINE MESOPOROUS SPHERICAL PARTICLES - Spherical particles of one or more elemental metals and carbon are prepared from a precursor in the form of a metal oleate. The metal oleate precursor is dispersed in a liquid vehicle and aerosol droplets of the dispersed precursor are formed in a stream of an inert gas. The aerosol droplets are heated in the stream to decompose the oleate ligand portion of the precursor and form spherical particles that have a mesoporous nanocrystalline structure. The open mesopores of the spherical particles provide a high surface area for contact with fluids in many applications. For example, the mesopores can be infiltrated with a hydrogen absorbing material, such as magnesium hydride, in order to increase the hydrogen storage capacity of the particles.01-05-2012
