20090271332COMPUTER SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GENERATING AND MAINTAINING A FINANCIAL BENCHMARK - A method for generating and maintaining a benchmark using a long/short investment strategy is disclosed herein. The method for generating and maintaining a benchmark using a long/short investment strategy may involve generating a benchmark by selecting a group of securities from a broad-base index; evaluating the securities included in a benchmark; and monthly rebalancing the benchmark using a long/short investment strategy. The method may also include determining the value of the index and publishing the value of the index as a benchmark for long/short investment portfolios. The value of the index may be determined periodically, daily, dynamically, or every 15 seconds. The securities included in the broad-base index may form a universe of eligible securities and be ranked monthly using the 10 Credit Suisse factors. Also disclosed herein are a method for generating and managing a passive long/short investment portfolio that closely correlates with a passive long/short benchmark, and a method of using a passive long/short benchmark to rebalance a portfolio. Also, a computer system for generating or maintaining a passive long/short benchmark, a computer program for generating or maintaining a passive long/short benchmark, a computer-readable medium storing a program configured to generate or maintain a passive long/short benchmark, and methods of using the same are disclosed herein.10-29-2009

20110129526COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR TREATING VASCULAR DISEASE - The use of tPA to treat hemorrhagic transformation, neurotoxicity has been limited to short treatment time windows because a high dose of tPA required to generate sufficient amounts of the enzyme plasmin for clot lysis. The present invention combines tPA with recombinant Annexin A2 resulting in thrombolysis without hemorrhagic transformation at delayed times after stroke. This embodiment allows the administration of a lower, non-neurotoxic, tPA dose. Our results suggest this novel combination for stroke therapy may greatly improve both efficacy and safety, and prolong tPA therapeutic time window.06-02-2011

20080286315Methionine Enkephalin as an Adjuvant for Vaccine Immunizations - The present invention provides a method of stimulating dendritic cells, comprising contacting the dendritic cells with methionine enkephalin. The present invention also provides methods of enhancing an immune response to an antigen in a mammal. In a first method, dendritic cells are isolated from the mammal. The dendritic cells are then contacted with methionine enkephalin for a time sufficient to stimulate the cells. Next, the stimulated dendritic cells are contacted with the antigen of interest for a time sufficient for the cells to process the antigen. The dendritic cells are then injected into the mammal. The dendritic cells may be injected into the animal either on their own, or along with methionine enkephalin and/or the antigen. In a second method, the antigen of interest and methionine enkephalin are administered to the mammal. The present invention also provides compositions for administration to a mammalian subject having a tumor.11-20-2008

20090125805METHODS FOR OBTAINING IMPROVED TEXT SIMILARITY MEASURES - The embodiments of the invention provide methods for obtaining improved text similarity measures. More specifically, a method of measuring similarity between at least two electronic documents begins by identifying similar terms between the electronic documents. This includes basing similarity between the similar terms on patterns, wherein the patterns can include word patterns, letter patterns, numeric patterns, and/or alphanumeric patterns. The identifying of the similar terms also includes identifying multiple pattern types between the electronic documents. Moreover, the basing of the similarity on patterns identifies terms within the electronic documents that are within a category of a hierarchy. Specifically, the identifying of the terms reviews a hierarchical data tree, wherein nodes of the tree represent terms within the electronic documents. Lower nodes of the tree have specific terms; and, wherein higher nodes of the tree have general terms.05-14-2009
