20110075105MULTIPLEXING LIGHT PIPE HAVING ENHANCED BRIGHTNESS - Multi-color light sources are mixed in a recycling housing to achieve high light output. In one embodiment, the light from each color light source, such as from red, green and blue LEDs, is multiplexed together and a portion of the mixed light passes through an output aperture in the light pipe. A portion of each colored light is recycled back, for example, by a shaped reflective surface and/or a reflective coating adjacent the aperture. The shape of the reflective surface is such as to direct each color of light back to a specific location to maximize the ultimate output light. In one embodiment, the light is directed back from the output side of the housing to an input light source having the same color. In another embodiment, the light is directed back from the output side of the housing to a coating designed to reflect that color light. The reflected light is then reflected back toward the output aperture and a portion of that reflected light is again reflected toward the input and impacts the original source for that color light. In this way, the light (at least in theory) recycles infinitely, thereby increasing the total light output of the housing. In some embodiments, the light is recycled using polarization and in some embodiments the input light is collimated.03-31-2011

20100250216SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHARACTERIZING FRACTURES IN A SUBSURFACE RESERVOIR - The disclosed methods, systems, and software are described to optimize fracture characteristics and simulate fluid flow rates in a well model. The well model, which includes at least one fracture intersecting a production well, is generated with static and dynamic data. Fluid flow in the well model is simulated to obtain simulated fluid flow rates between fractures and the well. Fracture properties, such as length, height and aperture, are then updated responsive to measured and simulated fluid flow rates. Multiple simulation runs and updating of the fracture properties can be performed until the simulated fluid flow rates converge with the measured fluid flow rates. Pressure data can be used to determine gridblock permeability, which in turn helps constrain the model, thus providing more reliable fracture properties. Uncertainty ranges of the fracture properties can also be calculated.09-30-2010

20100057620Mobile personal point-of-sale terminal - A customer mobile personal point-of-sale terminal (CMPPT) includes a Point-Of-Sale (POS) sleeve portion that slidingly engages, and couples to, a cellular telephone. The cellular telephone is used to communicate encrypted information between a financial transaction verification entity (FTVE) and the POS sleeve portion. The sleeve portion includes a mechanism for reading in a merchant account number at the point-of-sale, and for communicating in a secure encrypted fashion with the FTVE via the cellular telephone portion. Rather than a customer entering sensitive financial information into a merchant's POS terminal (MPT) and trusting the merchant with such information, merchant information is entered into the CMPPT. The CMPPT initiates a transaction by sending the customer's account information and the merchant information to the FTVE. The FTVE receives information about the transaction directly from the MPT. The FTVE verifies the transaction, and after authorization, the FTVE forwards approval codes to the CMPPT and MPT.03-04-2010

20100098312EXACT AND APPROXIMATE REBINNING OF TIME-OF-FLIGHT PET POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY DATA - A technique for processing of data from time-of-flight (TOF) PET scanners. The size of TOF PET data may be reduced without significant loss of information through a process called rebinning. The rebinning may use the Fourier transform properties of the measured PET data, taken with respect to the time-of-flight variable, to perform data reduction. Through this rebinning process, TOF PET data may be converted to any of the following reduced representations: 2D TOF PET data, 3D non-TOF PET data, and 2D non-TOF PET data. Mappings may be exact or approximate. Approximate mappings may not require a Fourier transform in the axial direction which may have advantages when used with PET scanners of limited axial extent. Once TOF PET data is reduced in size using this rebinning, PET images may be reconstructed with hardware and/or software that is substantially less complex and that may run substantially faster in comparison to reconstruction from the original non-rebinned data.04-22-2010
