| 20100310690 | Pharmaceutical product and analysis model for hormone replacement therapy for women and prevention of some cancers and uterine myomas - The present disclosure describes a study of estrogenic activity present in various plant species, selectively inducing some but not all estrogenic responses in the uterus. Prepubertal female rats were treated sequentially with various extracts or decoctions of different plant species or its vehicle, followed 1 h later by treatment with estradiol-17β (E) or its solvent. Uteri were excised under anesthesia and histologically processed for eosinophil quantification and morphometric evaluation of various uterine responses to estrogen, at 6 or 24 h after hormone or vehicle treatment. Besides extracts or decoctions, pure phytoestrogens were also used. Additionally, human mammary cancer cells MCF-7 or MDAMB-231 were cultured in presence of the extract (or decoction), E, both or solvent and cell proliferation was evaluated. Various extracts or decoction displayed selective estrogenic and/or antiestrogenic action for some but not all parameters of estrogen stimulation in the uterus and inhibited growth of human mammary cells in culture or antagonized the estrogen-induced increase in their growth. Present results reveal, for the first time, a dissociation of responses to estrogen by phytoestrogens, suggesting its possible therapeutic application as estrogenic compounds not inducing cell proliferation and reveal the anticancerous effect of some of the extracts with possible therapeutic relevance. The dissociation of responses to estrogen additionally suggest therapeutic applications in estrogen-related diseases (for instance, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, etc.); the inhibition of eosinophil degranulation suggest an application in diseases related to eosinophils (hypereosinophilic syndrome, allergic and hypersensitivity diseases). | 12-09-2010 |

| 20080225957 | Dynamic packet size control for MPEG-4 data partition mode - A dynamic AC prediction technique is implemented in a data partition mode which automatically disables AC prediction for encoding the current macroblock in the next packet when packet overflow occurs. Otherwise, when there is no overflow, AC prediction remains enabled to maintain compression efficiency. More particularly, in the preferred embodiment, a determination is first made whether a macroblock causes a packet overflow if it is encoded in the current packet. If so, a new packet is initiated into which the macroblock is encoded without AC prediction as the first macroblock. Otherwise, the macroblock with AC prediction remains in the current packet and a new macroblock is encoded. | 09-18-2008 |

| 20090138993 | Sunflower seeds with high delta-tocopherol content - The present invention relates to sunflower seeds which have been genetically modified through two artificial induction cycles of mutations followed in each case by processes for the identification of mutant individuals which have the desired character. The disclosed seeds are characterised in that they contain between 26% and 80% of the tocopherols as delta-tocopherol. This high delta-tocopherol production is determined by the genotype of the seeds which have been modified to this effect, and is always obtained independently of the culture conditions, thereby obtaining an inheritable character. Today, sunflower seeds producing such high levels of delta-tocopherol do not exist. Genetically modified sunflower plants which produce through self-fertilisation seeds with high delta-tocopherol levels and the oil with high natural delta-tocopherol concentration, extracted from the seeds, are also objectives of the present invention. | 05-28-2009 |
| 20110061138 | Sunflower Oil with High Heat Stability - The invention relates to a sunflower oil with high heat stability, which is characterised in that between 15% and 45% of the fatty acid total are saturated fatty acids (palmitic acid and stearic acid), between 45% and 75% of the fatty acid total is oleic acid and more than 85% of the tocopherol total corresponds to the sum of gamma-tocopherol and delta-tocopherol. The invention also relates to sunflower seeds that contain an oil with the aforementioned characteristics and sunflower plants which as a result of self-pollination produce seeds with the aforementioned characteristics. In addition, the invention relates to the use of said oil in food and animal feed and for the formulation of biolubricants and biofuels. | 03-10-2011 |
