20080272559Cooling tower seal joint - An assembly for connecting two vertically aligned cooling tower modules is provided. The assembly includes a lower module with a top structural edge and an upper module with a bottom structural edge. The top structural edge of the lower module includes an outer structural component and an inner sealing component. The bottom structural edge of the upper module includes an outer structural component and an inner sealing component. The outer structural component of the lower module has a generally flat surface that supports the bottom generally flat surface of the outer structural component of the top module. The inner sealing component of the top structural edge of the lower module includes a generally flat surface that abuts the inner generally flat surface of the outer structural component of the top structural edge of the lower module. The bottom generally flat surface of the inner sealing component of the bottom structural edge of the upper module is adjacent the top generally flat surface of the inner sealing component of the top structural edge of the lower module and a sealing component extends between such opposed flat surfaces.11-06-2008

20120125011METHOD FOR USE WITH ANNULAR GAS TURBINE ENGINE COMPONENT - A method is provided for use with an annular gas turbine engine component that includes a main body and an annular seal engaged to the main body with an interference fit. The method includes rotating the annular gas turbine engine component, directing thermal energy from a heat source at the annular seal to thermally expand the annular seal relative to the main body while the annular gas turbine engine component rotates, removing the heated annular seal from the main body, providing a newly manufactured replacement detail having substantially the same configuration as the main body, and engaging the removed annular seal to the replacement detail with an interference fit.05-24-2012

20080273703Dual-Gated Qkd System for Wdm Networks - Systems and methods of incorporating a QKD system (Q) into a WDM network (11-06-2008
20090016736Systems and methods for transmitting quantum and classical signals over an optical network - Systems and methods for transmitting quantum and classical signals over an optical network are disclosed, wherein the quantum signal wavelength either falls within the classical signal wavelength band, or is very close to one of the classical signal wavelengths. The system includes a deep-notch optical filter with a blocking bandwidth that includes the quantum signal wavelength but not any of the classical signal wavelengths. The deep-notch optical filtering is applied to the classical signals prior to their being multiplexed with the quantum signals to prevent noise generated by the classical signals from adversely affecting transmission of quantum signals in the transmission optical fiber. Narrow-band filtering is also applied to the quantum signals prior to their detection in order to substantially exclude spurious non-quantum-signal wavelengths that arise from non-linear effects in the optical fiber. The present invention allows for the quantum and classical signals to have wavelengths within just a few nanometers of one another, which has benefits for both classical and quantum signal transmission on a common transmission optical fiber.01-15-2009
20090074192Systems and methods for enhanced quantum key formation using an actively compensated QKD system - Systems and methods for enhanced quantum key distribution (QKD) using an actively compensated QKD system. The method includes exchanging quantum signals between first and second QKD stations and measuring the quantum signal error. An error signal S03-19-2009
20090208220Systems and methods for generating RF pulses with reduced phase error - Systems and methods for generating RF pulses that have a reduced phase error are disclosed. The systems are optical based and thus are highly linear, so that phase errors, including jitter, are significantly reduced as compared to electrical RF pulse generation systems and methods. The optical-based RF pulse generation methods includes generating laser light, imparting an envelope modulation to the laser light, imparting a carrier modulation to the laser light, and detecting the envelope-modulated and carrier-modulated light to form the electrical RF pulse. The electrical RF pulse can then be carried by a cable to an external device.08-20-2009

20120068899COMPACT PORTABLE ANTENNA POSITIONER SYSTEM AND METHOD - A low power, lightweight, collapsible and rugged antenna positioner for use in communicating with geostationary, geosynchronous and low earth orbit satellite. By collapsing, invention may be easily carried or shipped in a compact container. May be used in remote locations with simple or automated setup and orientation. Azimuth is adjusted by rotating an antenna in relation to a positioner base and elevation is adjusted by rotating an elevation motor coupled with the antenna. Manual orientation of antenna for linear polarized satellites yields lower weight and power usage. Updates ephemeris or TLE data via satellite. Algorithms used for search including Clarke Belt fallback, transponder/beacon searching switch, azimuth priority searching and tracking including uneven re-peak scheduling yield lower power usage. Orientation aid via user interface allows for smaller azimuth motor, simplifies wiring and lowers weight. Tilt compensation, bump detection and failure contingency provide robustness.03-22-2012
