20110006196ION MOBILITY SPECTROMETER - An ion mobility spectrometer is described having an ion filter in the form of at least one ion channel having a plurality of electrodes. A time-varying electric potential applied to the conductive layers allows the filler to selectively admit ion species. The electric potential has a drive and a transverse component, and in preferred embodiments each of the electrodes is involved in generating a component of both the drive and transverse fields. The device may be used without a drift gas flow. Microfabrication techniques are described for producing microscale spectrometers, as are various uses of the spectrometer.01-13-2011
20110036973ION PUMP - The invention provides an ion pump to be used for selectively transferring ionised molecules across a barrier from a first volume to a second volume. The pump comprises an ion gate or filter separating the two volumes, the filter comprising at least one ion channel extending between the first and second spaces, the channel defined by a plurality of conductive layers separated along the length of the channel by at least one non-conductive layer; the device further comprising control means for applying an electric potential to the conductive layers such that the conductive layers act as electrodes. Other aspects of the invention relate to methods for selectively transferring ions.02-17-2011

20100213364SMART FAIMS SENSOR - A smart FAIMS sensor system and method includes a 2/2-electrode filter that pumps the ions through the system and separates the ionic species, a detector for collecting the separated ions and generating a detector signal in response to the collected ions, and a controller configured to change the operating parameters of the system in response to changes in the sensor's environment detected by the sensor. The ability to dynamically change the operating parameters of the sensor enables the sensor to maintain high sensitivity to environmental threats while decreasing the incidences of false positive events.08-26-2010
20110056371SENSOR - A method and sensor for monitoring chemical species in a gas flow are described. An ionized sample of gas is passed through a flow channel, with a DC electric field applied transverse to the longitudinal axis of the channel. Any electric current produced by the ion flow is measured, with variations in the current being indicative of a change in composition of the gas flow. In certain embodiments, the DC field may be varied over time, to sweep the field voltage. The detected current against field voltage graph may be taken as a profile of a particular gas composition. Variations in the profile again are indicative of a change in gas composition.03-10-2011

20100310407METHOD FOR PRODUCING SEMI-FINISHED PRODUCTS FROM NITI SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS - Disclosed is a method for producing semi-finished products from a shape memory alloy, particularly an NiTi shape memory alloy, wherein a powder is first produced from a shape memory alloy, and subsequently the powder is divided into a coarse fraction and a fine fraction in a separating cut T. While the fine fraction is required, in particular, for the production of a first semi-finished product, employing the metal injection molding (MIM) method, the coarse fraction can be used for the production of a second semi-finished product, employing the hot isostatic pressing (HIP) method. The advantages of the invention can be summarized as follows. The MIM method for producing semi-finished products from a shape memory alloy is qualitatively improved and more cost-effective to implement if the coarse fraction that is typically obtained during powder production, but not used for the MIM process, can advantageously be supplied to a further process, in this case the HIP process. Due to the use of particularly fine powder, the semi-finished products produced by way of the MIM method have an advantageous, powder-metallurgical microstructure. In particular, the alloying elements are distributed particularly homogeneously in these semi-finished products, casting flaws or segregations do not usually occur, no anisotropy of the structure occurs as a result of the processing steps, and ternary alloys can be processed, which due to the mechanical properties thereof, cannot be processed by way of conventional forming methods.12-09-2010
