TIERED VERIFICATION - Methods and devices for evaluating risk profiles for potential participants in e-commerce transactions, such as online wager gaming, are described. Player attributes such as identity, age, location, and/or residence may be profiled using data service providers (“DSPs”). The best available DSP(s) may be selected, e.g., according to the jurisdiction. Players may be evaluated according to DSP scores and assigned to levels or “tiers” with predefined attributes, e.g., predefined transaction limits. For example, relatively lower-risk players may be assigned to tiers with relatively higher deposit and withdrawal limits, and vice versa. Efficiencies may be created by differentiating verification steps that are performed during the registration process from those that are performed when a player attempts to make a transaction. | 07-22-2010

USER AUTHENTICATION AND ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD - A system and method for permitting user access to a computer controlled device. A display device displays a group of items to the user. Some of the items are known to the user and some are unknown to the user. An input device receives user input from the user. The user input indicates the presence or absence of the known items within the group of items without specifically identifying which items are known and which items are unknown. A computer is programmed to automatically compare the user input to a predetermined answer. If the user input is correct an access device allows access. In one preferred embodiment the user input includes a count of the number of known items within the group of items. In another preferred embodiment the group of items includes subgroups. The user input includes an identification of which subgroup has the largest number of known items. In another preferred embodiment the group of items is displayed in a grid. The known items are displayed in a pattern within the grid. Multiple comparison patterns are displayed along with the grid. The user input includes an identification of which comparison pattern matches the pattern of the known items within the grid. | 03-15-2012

Method and system for HTTP-based stream delivery - A method of delivering a live stream is implemented within a content delivery network (CDN) and includes the high level functions of recording the stream using a recording tier, and playing the stream using a player tier. The step of recording the stream includes a set of sub-steps that begins when the stream is received at a CDN entry point in a source format. The stream is then converted into an intermediate format (IF), which is an internal format for delivering the stream within the CDN and comprises a stream manifest, a set of one or more fragment indexes (FI), and a set of IF fragments. The player process begins when a requesting client is associated with a CDN HTTP proxy. In response to receipt at the HTTP proxy of a request for the stream or a portion thereof, the HTTP proxy retrieves (either from the archive or the data store) the stream manifest and at least one fragment index. Using the fragment index, the IF fragments are retrieved to the HTTP proxy, converted to a target format, and then served in response to the client request. The source format may be the same or different from the target format. Preferably, all fragments are accessed, cached and served by the HTTP proxy via HTTP. In another embodiment, a method of delivering a stream on-demand (VOD) uses a translation tier (in lieu of the recording tier) to manage the creation and/or handling of the IF components. | 07-14-2011

WIRELESS ENVIRONMENT METHOD AND APPARATUS - A method and apparatus are provided for a first controlled device, such as a wireless local transmitter that accepts a plurality of digital audio signals and corresponding program information signals converted from a controlled source, such as the encoded digital data provided by a digital data signal source, typically a community antenna television (CATV) cable or direct broadcast satellite, then modulates said digital audio and corresponding program information signals on different carrier frequencies and transmits the modulated signals to a plurality of second controlled devices, such as remote digital receiver/tuners that demodulate said signals to output music in stereophonic sound and display the corresponding program information by means of an alphanumeric display. The first and second controlled devices contain microprocessor systems for communicating, controlling, storing, processing, and display of digital data within the operation of the respective system. A high speed, error free digital signal protocol is utilized for transmitting digital audio and corresponding program information signals to and from the digital receiver/tuner. The digital data transmitter and digital receiver/tuners utilize the 44.1 kilohertz (kHz) Compact Disc (CD) clock signal embedded in digital audio signals provided by an established delivery system to derive clocking signals for reception and processing of digital audio signals and for implementing the display information communications protocol. | 10-20-2011

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FASTENING OBJECTS TO AN ELASTIC SURFACE - A method and apparatus for attaching an object to an elastic surface includes an elastic surface and a first flexible, linear fastener attached to the elastic surface by at least two opposite ends separated by a distance that is less than a diameter of an object to be fastened to the elastic surface. A second flexible, linear fastener is attached to the elastic surface by at least two opposite ends separated by a distance that is less than a diameter of an object to be fastened to the elastic surface. The first linear fastener and the second linear fastener are separated by a distance sufficient to insert a leading edge of the object between the first linear fastener and the elastic surface and to insert a trailing edge of the object between the second linear fastener and the elastic surface so that the first linear fastener and the second linear fastener hold the object against the elastic surface. | 10-08-2009
