WIDE AREA ABLATION OF MYOCARDIAL TISSUE - The present invention advantageously provides a method and system for cryogenically ablating large areas of tissue within the left atrium. In an exemplary embodiment a cryotherapy device includes a catheter body having a substantially fixed diameter, a proximal end and a distal end; a first lumen for permitting passage of a cooling fluid from the proximal end to the distal end; a second lumen permitting return of the cooling fluid from the distal end to the proximal end; and an ablation element expandable from a first diameter that is substantially the same as the diameter of the catheter body to a second diameter that is at least twice the diameter of the catheter body, the ablation element having a surface portion that conforms to the uneven surface topography of the cardiac tissue. The ablation element can include one or more balloon and/or a flexible element that is deformed by moving the distal end of the catheter toward the proximal end of the catheter. The surface of the balloon can further be shaped by regulation of pressure within the one or more balloons. In an exemplary method a tissue ablation device is provided and tissue in the antrum of the left atrium is ablated with the device. In an exemplary method, only tissue in the antrum is ablated, and the ablation is created by freezing tissue. | 09-04-2008

Intravascular Medical Device - An implantable medical device is configured so that all of the major components including a housing and attached leads are disposed within the vasculature of a patient. A tether extends from the housing of the device to an implant location where the tether is secured to tissue outside of the vasculature. In this manner, an intravascular medical device may be implanted at a location remote from final placement, delivered via the vasculature and anchored at the initial entry point. | 08-06-2009

Scrolling Display - A scrolling display system suitable for large public gatherings. This display comprises at least one display element itself comprising: a frame comprising a display window; two horizontal and parallel end rollers affixed by their extremities to the frame; a rectangular sheet of fabric carrying illustrations and having its ends wound around the end rollers; at least one horizontal guiding roller affixed to the frame and positioned to guide the fabric sheet and fold its path between the two end rollers; at least one horizontal weight roller positioned to maintain tension on the fabric; a programmable electrical motor configured to produce a predetermined amount of angular displacement; driving belts connecting the motor to the end rollers, to transmit the angular displacement to the end rollers. Display of desired illustration is achieved by scrolling the fabric sheet until the illustration faces the display window. | 12-24-2009

Multivalent immunogenic composition containing RSV subunit compostion and influenza virus preparation - Immunogenic compositions for administration to adults particularly to the elderly, to protect them against disease caused by infection by respiratory syncytial virus and influenza virus comprise an immunoeffective amount of a mixture of purified fusion (F) protein, attachment (G) protein and matrix (M) protein of RSV and an immunoeffective amount of a non-virulent influenza virus preparation. The components of the composition when formulated as a vaccine for in vivo administration do not impair the immunogenicity of each other. The immunogenic composition may also contain an adjuvant. | 10-09-2008
Chimeric immunogens - Multimeric hybrid genes encoding the corresponding chimeric protein comprise a gene sequence coding for an antigenic region of a protein from a first pathogen linked to a gene sequence coding for an antigenic region of a protein from a second pathogen. The pathogens particularly are parainfluenza virus (PIV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). A single recombinant immunogen is capable of protecting infants and similar susceptible individuals against diseases caused by both PIV and RSV. | 12-18-2008

Immunizing Against HIV Infection - A virus neutralizing level of antibodies to a primary HIV isolate is generated in a host by a prime-boost administration of antigents. The primary antigen is a DNA molecule encoding an envelop glycoprotein of a primary isolate of HIV-1 while the boosting antigen is either a non-infectious, non-replicating HIV-like particle having the envelope glycoprotein of a primary isolate of HIV-1 or an attenuated viral vector expressing an envelope glycoprotein of a primary isolate of HIV-1. | 06-04-2009

ATTACHMENT BRACKET FOR A TRUCK BOX - A tonneau cover is arranged to mount on the truck box of a conventional pick up truck for enclosing the box. The cover comprises a pair of panels which are pivotally mounted on respective sides of the box. The panels extend laterally inward such that free ends of the panels engage each other in a closed position. The panels may be pivoted upward and secured in an upward orientation by a pair of rails connected between the free ends of the respective panels in an extended position of the panels. The panels form a pair of side walls in the extended position for supporting large cargo in the box. The rails form a rack in the extended position for supporting additional cargo thereon. A locking device secures the panels in the closed position while a plurality of struts provides additional support to the panels when pivoting the panels between the closed and extended positions. | 03-05-2009

FOOTWEAR WITH RETRACTABLE SPIKES - An apparatus for selectively extending and retracting spikes includes spike actuating assemblies mounted to, and cooperating between, a first plate and a first slider frame, and a second plate and a second slider frame, pivotally mounted to the first plate and first slider frame respectively. Each spike actuating assembly contains a spike. The first slider frame is translatable to actuate the spike actuating assemblies to thereby extend and retract the spikes from the spike actuating assemblies. A cyclically alternating positioner is mounted on the first plate for moving the first and second slider frames relative to the first and second plates. The positioner has only a single actuating button adjacent the heel. Depressing the actuating button a first time causes the positioner to move the slider frames to extend the spikes. Depressing the actuating button a second time causes the positioner to move the slider frames to retract the spikes. | 07-07-2011
