20100024392 | METHOD FOR HEATING A CATALYTIC CONVERTER ARRANGED IN AN EXHAUST-GAS REGION OF A COMBUSTION PROCESS, AND DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT THE METHOD - An internal combustion engine is operated with direct fuel injection into the combustion chambers. Furthermore, the internal combustion engine is operated with sub-optimum ignition angle efficiency and an apportionment of a fuel quantity, which is to be injected before the start of a combustion, into at least two partial injections. A torque loss which results from the sub-optimum ignition angle efficiency and/or from the apportionment of the fuel to be injected is compensated by means of an increased charge of the combustion chambers. The fuel quantity and the charge are coordinated with one another in such a way that the air ratio lambda of the combustion chamber charges is greater than 1. The method is characterized in that a measure for a temperature of the catalytic converter, in particular a measure for the temperature at the inlet of the catalytic converter, is determined and in that a quantity of reducing exhaust-gas constituents is increased by means of at least one intervention into the control of the internal combustion engine if the measure for the temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature threshold value. The approach according to the invention permits rapid heating of the catalytic converter, wherein the hydrocarbon emissions when the catalytic converter is cold are at the same time as low as possible. | 02-04-2010 |
20110030664 | METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETERMINING THE COMPOSITION OF A FUEL MIXTURE - The invention relates to a method and device for determining the composition of a fuel mixture made of one first fuel and at least one second fuel for operating an internal combustion engine, wherein said internal combustion engine has a fuel metering apparatus and at least one exhaust gas probe in an exhaust gas channel. According to the method of the invention, it is provided that the fuel mixture is at least temporarily supplied to the exhaust gas probe at least partially uncombusted, and the composition of the fuel mixture is determined from an output signal of the exhaust gas probe. According to the device of the invention, it is provided that the exhaust gas probe is situated proximal to the motor in the direction of the exhaust gas flow before a first catalytic converter, and the fuel mixture can be supplied at least partially uncombusted to the exhaust gas probe at least temporarily. The method allows the precise and reliable determination of the composition of a fuel mixture in internal combustion engines operated in flex fuel operation existing components. | 02-10-2011 |

20120031074 | METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REGENERATING A PARTICLE FILTER - A method and device for monitoring and controlling the regeneration of a particle filter in an exhaust gas duct of an internal combustion engine which has a three-way catalytic converter downstream of the particle filter, wherein the particle filter is regenerated by oxidative burning of the particles during a regeneration phase, wherein oxygen consumption is balanced, directly or indirectly, during the regeneration phase via the temporal variation of a first signal of a first lambda probe, which is arranged upstream of the particle filter, in comparison to the temporal variation of a second signal of a second lambda probe, which is arranged downstream of the particle filter. A lambda value of λ=1 is set downstream of the three-way catalytic converter during the regeneration of the particle filter by means of lambda control and the second lambda probe which is arranged downstream of the three-way catalytic converter. | 02-09-2012 |
