20090314919 | Suspension Seat Mechanism - In a preferred embodiment, a light weight telescoping suspension seat mechanism for a watercraft seat pedestal designed to fit into an existing or new seat pedestal. This suspension seat mechanism contains a combination of roller bearings to allow the seat pedestal to move linearly, but not rotationally. An expanding bushing mechanism secures the seat assembly rigidly to the seat pedestal and floor, and another bushing connects the mechanism to the seat. Each are easily adjusted to allow for easy installation and removal of the suspension seat mechanism. Located inside the telescoping mechanism is a suspension damper with air rebound spring allowing the individual to tailor the suspension stiffness to individual preference. This suspension mechanism provides damping force on the seat. The rebound spring responds to seat movement so as to return the seat to its original position. | 12-24-2009 |
20110049833 | Bicycle suspension system - In a preferred embodiment, an ultra-light weight suspension fork for bicycles that provides smooth action of the suspension system that hitherto has been unachievable. This fork assembly contains a telescoping mechanism located in the head tube of the bicycle that uses linear roller bearings to reduce stiction and prevent torsional losses, but limits weight by only using two such bearings. Side-to-side load is eliminated by the use of two longitudinal members in close proximity to the inner tube of this telescoping mechanism. The telescoping mechanism is coupled to the wheel via an arched single-sided fork crown designed to maintain torsional and braking stiffness. The arched crown contains arches in two dimensions. The fork crown is coupled to the wheel via a shaped fork tube whose wall is thickened while the outside diameter is reduced so that the connection point to the axle mechanism has the same outside diameter as the fork tube thereby enabling significant strengthening of the assembly. | 03-03-2011 |

20110055964 | Method for Generating Hypermutable Plants - Blockade of mismatch repair in a plant can lead to hypermutation and a new genotype and/or phenotype. One approach used to generate hypermutable plants is through the expression of dominant negative alleles of mismatch repair genes in transgenic plants or derived cells. By introducing these genes into cells and transgenic plants, new cell lines and plant varieties with novel and useful properties can be prepared more efficiently than by relying on the natural rate of mutation. Moreover, methods to inhibit the expression and activity of endogenous plant MMR genes and their encoded products are also useful to generate hypermutable plants. | 03-03-2011 |

20090208505 | Mutations of the pik3ca gene in human cancers - Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases (PI3Ks) are known to be important regulators of signaling pathways. To determine whether PI3Ks are genetically altered in cancers, we analyzed the sequences of the P13K gene family and discovered that one family member, PIK3CA, is frequently mutated in cancers of the colon and other organs. The majority of mutations clustered near two positions within the P13K helical or kinase domains. PIK3CA represents one of the most highly mutated oncogenes yet identified in human cancers and is useful as a diagnostic and therapeutic target. | 08-20-2009 |

20090010844 | Imaging Infection With Compounds That Bind to Thymidine Kinase - The instant invention provides a method for diagnosing an infection in a subject by administering to the subject a compound suitable for imaging which binds to a thymidine kinase present in the infecting organism, and obtaining an image of the subject to determine the presence and location of the compound, wherein a localization of the compound is indicative that the subject has an infection. | 01-08-2009 |
20090286687 | Method and Compositions for Detection and Enumeration of Genetic Variations - Many areas of biomedical research depend on the analysis of uncommon variations in individual genes or transcripts. Here we describe a method that can quantify such variation at a scale and ease heretofore unattainable. Each DNA molecule in a collection of such molecules is converted into a single particle to which thousands of copies of DNA identical in sequence to the original are bound. This population of beads then corresponds to a one-to-one representation of the starting DNA molecules. Variation within the original population of DNA molecules can then be simply assessed by counting fluorescently-labeled particles via flow cytometry. Millions of individual DNA molecules can be assessed in this fashion with standard laboratory equipment. Moreover, specific variants can be isolated by flow sorting and employed for further experimentation. This approach can be used for the identification and quantification of rare mutations as well as to study variations in gene sequences or transcripts in specific populations or tissues. | 11-19-2009 |

20130296408 | MEDULLOBLASTOMA GENES AS TARGETS FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPEUTICS - Medulloblastoma (MB) is the most common malignant brain tumor of children. To identify the genetic alterations in this tumor type, we searched for copy number alterations using high density microarrays and sequenced all known protein-coding genes and miRNA genes using Sanger sequencing. We found that, on average, each tumor had 11 gene alterations, markedly fewer than in common adult cancers. In addition to alterations in the Hedgehog and Wnt pathways, our analysis led to the discovery of genes not previously known to be altered in MBs. Most notably, inactivating mutations of the histone H3K4 trimethylase genes MLL2 or MLL3 were identified in 16% of MB patients. These results demonstrate key differences between the genetic landscapes of adult and childhood cancers, highlight dysregulation of developmental pathways as an important mechanism underlying MBs, and identify a role for a specific type of histone methylation in human tumorigenesis. | 11-07-2013 |
20130323167 | DETECTING AND TREATING SOLID TUMORS THROUGH SELECTIVE DISRUPTION OF TUMOR VASCULATURE - Several agents capable of inducing vascular responses akin to those observed in inflammatory processes enhance the accumulation of nanoparticles in tumors. Exemplary vascular-active agents include a bacterium, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, and microtubule-destabilizing drugs. Such agents can increase the tumor to blood ratio of radioactivity by more than 20-fold compared to nanoparticles alone. Moreover, vascular-active agents dramatically improved the therapeutic effect of nanoparticles containing radioactive isotopes or chemotherapeutic agents. | 12-05-2013 |

20120018010 | Hydraulic Transmission - A hydraulic transmission has a primary unit and a secondary unit, which are connected to each other in a closed circuit by way of a first and a second working line. The primary unit and/or the secondary unit has a plurality of cylinder/piston units, which can each be activated or deactivated by means of a first valve and a second valve. This serves the purpose of setting a time-averaged volume flow of the unit. In this arrangement, both valves of each cylinder/piston unit are designed as high-pressure valves. A reversal in the direction of rotation, e.g. a reversal in the direction of travel, and a change from drive to overrun, during regenerative braking for example, is accomplished within the closed circuit of the transmission without a reversal in the direction of delivery by means of a changeover between low pressure and high pressure. | 01-26-2012 |
