20110059778Touchscreen with Z-Velocity Enhancement - A system and a method are disclosed for detecting an interaction, such as physical contact, with a touch-sensitive screen. The screen comprises a plurality of cells each associated with a signal value, such as a capacitance, that is modified based on the proximity of an object to the screen. During a first time interval, a first signal value associated with a cell is captured and during a second time interval a second signal value associated with the cell is captured. A difference is computed by subtracting the second signal value from the first signal value. The difference is used to classify the proximity of the object to the screen. For example, the object is classified as approaching the screen if the difference is positive and non-zero or the object is classified as moving away from the screen if the difference is negative and non-zero.03-10-2011

20100020868TRANSITIONING COMPRESSION LEVELS IN A STREAMING IMAGE SYSTEM - Systems and media for transitioning compression levels of a streaming image system include a machine-accessible medium of a storage device containing instructions for transitioning compression levels between image frames in a streaming image system. Embodiments may include receiving client information from a client of an interactive streaming image system, generating a new image frame based on the received information, determining an initial compression level, comparing the new image frame to a previous frame to determine whether content changed, performing a smoothing heuristic by generating a multi-frame smoothing routine by increasing image quality in response to no change of content and decreasing image quality in response to a change in content, setting the new compression level based on the multi-frame smoothing routine, and encoding and transmitting the new image frame and compression level to a client.01-28-2010

20100176966METHODS AND SYSTEMS OF SIMULTANEOUSLY COMMUNICATING UTILITY DATA AND VOICE DATA - A method for communicating utility data includes receiving a voice signal and a data signal via a utility network, combining the voice signal and the data signal to form a communication signal, and transmitting the communication signal to a plurality of utility asset controllers and handheld devices via the utility network.07-15-2010
20110161022SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND APPARATUS FOR UTILITY METER PHASE IDENTIFICATION - Systems, methods, and apparatus for utility meter phase identification are provided. A utility meter may receive, from a remote system, a plurality of reference signals for respective zero crossings for a plurality of phases in a multiple-phase power system. The reference signals may be generated utilizing a precision time source. The utility meter may also receive a precision time signal from a time source. The precision time signal may be utilized to time stamp a zero crossing of a voltage signal at the meter, and the time stamped voltage signal may be compared to the plurality of reference signals in order to determine a phase to which the utility meter is connected.06-30-2011

20100105369INTELLIGENT CUSTOMER CARE SUPPORT - In a mobile communications system a visiting location register (VLR) associated with a switching receives an address of an external control component and a service identifier identifying a service to be performed by the external control component from a home location register (HLR) associated with a mobile communications device. When a customer care call from the mobile communications device is received at the switching center, the switching center suspends call processing and queries the external control component utilizing the address from the VLR. The external control component performs the service indicated by the service indicator and determines a translation for the customer care call and returns information to the switching center for routing the call according to the translation. The translation may be determined at least in part according to the service performed by the external control component. The translation may be determined at least in part according to one or more of time of day, day of week, location of the switching center, or NPA-Nxx. The service indicator and address of the external control component may be provided by the HLR in Dialed CAMEL Subscription Information (D-CSI) associated with the mobile communication device.04-29-2010

20090033718Actuator - In one embodiment an electrostatic actuator includes: a first conductor associated with each chamber; a second conductor having a plurality of flexible first parts supported by a plurality of second parts, each flexible first part forming at least part of a wall of each chamber and each flexible first part located opposite a corresponding one of the first conductors across a gap; and a voltage source operatively connected to each of the first conductors for selectively applying a voltage between each of the first conductors and the second conductor In another embodiment, an electrostatic actuator includes: a plurality of rigid conductors arranged adjacent to one another along a chamber; and a flexible conductor disposed opposite to and spanning the plurality of first conductors across a gap, the flexible conductor forming at least part of one wall of the chamber such that flexing the flexible conductor flexes the wall to change the volume of the chamber.02-05-2009
20110169894ELECTROSTATIC LIQUID-EJECTION ACTUATION MECHANISM - An electrostatic liquid-ejection actuation mechanism includes a membrane, a frame, and one or more deformable beams. The frame has two sides and a number of cross members that are non-parallel to the two sides. The two sides and the cross members define one or more areas individually corresponding to one or more liquid chambers. The deformable beams are disposed between the membrane and the frame. The deformable beams individually correspond to the liquid chambers, and define a number of slits. Each slit is adjacent to one of the two sides of the frame. The deformable beams have a width that is less than a width of the liquid chambers, due at least to the slits.07-14-2011

20110168820STIRRED BALL MILL ASSEMBLY WITH MAGNETIC DRIVE SYSTEM - A stirred ball mill assembly includes multiple vessels each having a body supporting sets of magnets rotatable with respect to the body. Each vessel defines an enclosed milling chamber, and has a stirring arm assembly extending in the respective enclosed milling chamber and connected for rotation with the respective sets of magnets. The sets of magnets and the stirring arm assembly are completely enclosed within the respective vessel. The vessels are configured to be stacked with one another so that adjacent ones of the sets of magnets are magnetically coupled with one another. A drive motor assembly has another set of magnets magnetically coupled with one of the sets of magnets of the stacked vessels. The drive motor can rotate the stirring arm assemblies within the milling chambers of the milling chambers of the stacked vessels via magnetic coupling of the magnets.07-14-2011
