20100241981SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DISPLAYING AND USING NON-NUMERIC GRAPHIC ELEMENTS TO CONTROL AND MONITOR A VISION SYSTEM - This invention provides a system and method for employing GUI-based non-numeric slide buttons and bar meters to setup and monitor operating parameters of a vision system (the term “vision system” as used herein including the above-described vision detector). Such parameters can include, but are not limited to the threshold at which a feature is activated in viewing an image. Operating parameters also include the underlying range of contrast values and levels of brightness intensities (or by input inversion, the level of darkness) recognized and acted upon by the vision system. Graphical representations of operating parameters are displayed in a parameter box on the GUI with moving bars that are shaded, patterned or colored so as to provide a relative level between two extremes on a scale of the given operating parameter. The endpoints of the scale can be established by analyzing the relevant extremes on a subject image view. The current level of the given parameter is displayed as a bar that extends a distance along the scale that is proportional to the current level of the parameter along the scale. Input of operating parameter settings with respect to the scale is made by moving a setting slider along the scale between the extremes. The position of the slider establishes the user-input setting relative to the scale. In an illustrative embodiment, scales, level bars and setting sliders can also be displayed on the image view itself, adjacent to a given image view feature, which is the subject of the scale.09-23-2010

20090251099Passive over/under voltage control and protection for energy storage devices associated with energy harvesting - Described herein is, for example, a battery or capacitor over voltage (overcharge) and under-voltage protection circuit, that, for example, is adapted to not draw current from the battery or capacitor to be charged unless charge energy is detected and to not charge an energy storage device when an over-charge condition is sensed. The protection circuit may, for example, not be turned on unless an over voltage condition is present. Incoming energy to the system can be shunted to ground via a shunt load of various types including resistive loads and active components such as a zener diode. In some embodiments, no switching of the inbound power is required. Within limits, no regulation of inbound power is needed. When inbound power is sufficient to charge the battery or capacitor, regulation can occur via the applied shunt regulator if overcharge voltage conditions exist. Either type of charge source, voltage or current, can be used to provide charge energy. Combining said battery or capacitor over voltage (overcharge) and under-voltage protection circuit with electronic loads, such as wireless sensors, may lead to autonomously-powered wireless sensor systems.10-08-2009
20100090477Foot-Powered Footwear-Embedded Sensor-Transceiver - A user-powered apparatus, system, and method of providing a pedestrian with information is disclosed. 20100201209SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AN IMPROVED LINEAR MOTOR - An improved linear motor is provided useful in conjunction with audio equipment for reduced distortion audio output at high voice coil displacements. The improved linear motor may include a yoke, a gap plate which forms an air gap with the yoke, magnets coupled to the yoke and the gap plate, a former, and a voice coil coupled to the former. The magnets generate a magnetic field across the air gap, which is relatively narrow. The former and coil fit in the air gap and may move in a vertical direction. The voice coil includes more than one segment, each having differing electrical resistance. The differing resistances cause the force on the voice coil to be uniform regardless of displacement of the voice coil vertically within the air gap. Resistance differences between the segments may be caused by differing the wire lengths making up each segment of the coil. 20110050412Voice activated finding device - Selected objects may be located by pushing a button on a keypad of a base unit, or by giving an oral command thereto. A receiver microprocessor, loaded with a unique electronic address, is attachable to each object. A base unit PROM is loaded with a library of digitized voice command templates. A user's command to find a lost object is received by a microphone, and digitized. The digitized command is compared with the templates using pattern recognition algorithms, which may utilize a Hidden Markov Model. When matched, the base unit processor causes radio transmission of RF interrogation packets targeted at the unique address corresponding to the lost object. A receiver chip detects the interrogation packets, and compares the transmitted unique address with the address stored in its microprocessor. Where matched, the microprocessor modulates a sounding device to direct the user to the lost object. The voice command templates can be preset for speaker independent operation or can be customizable for speaker dependent operation.03-03-2011

20100063747Using Plasma Proteomic Pattern For Diagnosis, Classification, Prediction of Response to Therapy and Clinical Behavior, Stratification of Therapy, and Monitoring Disease in Hematologic Malignancies - The present invention demonstrates that the diagnosis and prediction of clinical behavior in patients with hematologic malignancies, such as leukemia, can be accomplished by analysis of proteins present in a plasma sample. Thus, in particular embodiments the present invention uses plasma to create a diagnostic or prognostic protein profile of a hematologic malignancy comprising collecting plasma samples from a population of patients with hematologic malignancies; generating protein spectra from the plasma samples with or without fractionation; comparing the protein spectra with clinical data; and identifying protein markers in the plasma samples that correlate with the clinical data. Protein markers identified by this approach can then be used to create a protein profile that can be used to diagnose the hematologic malignancy or determine the prognosis of the hematologic malignancy. Potentially these specific proteins can be identified and targeted in the therapy of these malignancies.03-11-2010
