Knee brace having a rigid frame and patellofemoral support - Embodiments of the knee brace disclosed herein provide a combination of external ligament support and/or relief from pain caused by osteoarthritis with patellofemoral support. The brace includes a rigid frame and a flexible strap configured to extend across the wearer's patella to provide anterior loading thereto. The strap is operatively secured at either end to components of the rigid frame, thereby providing maximum leverage for applying force to the wearer's patella. In some embodiments, the strap includes a removable and adjustable buttress for directly contacting the wearer's patella. The patellar strap provides dynamic loading to the patella through the wearer's range of motion for relief of patellofemoral dysfunction, such as patellar shift, subluxation and dislocation, and malalignments such as patella alta, patella baja, tilt and glide. In some embodiments, a conversion kit is provided for converting a rigid brace frame into a knee brace capable of providing patellofemoral support to a wearer's knee. The kit includes at least a patellar strap and at least one tab for securing the strap to the rigid frame. | 08-28-2008

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR USING A TRUSTED DISK DRIVE AND ALTERNATE MASTER BOOT RECORD FOR INTEGRITY SERVICES DURING THE BOOT OF A COMPUTING PLATFORM - A trusted hard disk drive (“THDD”) contains cryptographic primitives and support functions in a trusted partition (“TP”). In particular, a master boot record (“MBR”) of the THDD is replaced with an alternative MBR and the normal MBR is stored elsewhere on the THDD. The program(s) loaded from the alternative MBR performs measurements of the TP. The TP, in turn, performs all necessary measurements of the MBR, a personal computer platform's OS, and the OS-present applications, including a platform trust service (“PTS”) kernel. The program(s) also performs functions to clear the PC platform's state such that any events that occurred prior to its execution do not alter the functionality of the OS-present applications. This may include clearing the PC's microprocessor, system memory and cache, for example. DRTM types of system resets may also be performed after the PC's OS has booted to force system clears without requiring OS or VMM infrastructure. | 07-02-2009

CIRCUIT ARRANGEMENT FOR CONTROLLING ELECTROMAGNETIC VALVES AND VALVE DEVICE WITH A CONTROLLABLE VALVE - A circuit arrangement for controlling electromagnetic valves, has a control unit that issues control signals for controlling the angular position of an electromagnetic valve and receives a reply signal regarding the value. The circuit arrangement receives the control signals of the control unit and issues the reply signal to it. A bridge circuit receives control signals from the circuit arrangement for the triggering of a valve servomotor and issues a reply signal, which indicates the angular position of the valve to the circuit arrangement. The circuit arrangement has an angular sensor that transmits a value, which indicates the angular position of the valve to the circuit arrangement. When a rise of the current of the servomotor above a predetermined threshold is detected, the bridge circuit sets a status flag. The circuit arrangement then transmits a predetermined level to the control unit, and the control unit detects the predetermined level. When a level is determined to be impermissible, the control unit requests the value, which indicates the angular position of the valve, from the circuit arrangement and processes this value. | 05-21-2009

PORTABLE POWER MANAGER OPERATING METHODS - Various aspects of invention provide portable power manager operating methods. One aspect of the invention provides a method for operating a power manager having a plurality of device ports for connecting with external power devices and a power bus for connecting with each device port. The method includes: disconnecting each device port from the power bus when no external power device is connected to the device port; accessing information from newly connected external power devices; determining if the newly connected external power devices can be connected to the power bus without power conversion; if not, determining if the newly connected external power devices can be connected to the power bus over an available power converter; and if so, configuring the available power converter for suitable power conversion. | 01-13-2011
PORTABLE POWER MANAGER ENCLOSURE - Various aspects of the invention provide power manager enclosures. One aspect of the invention provides a power manager enclosure including: a sealed housing comprising opposing substantially rectangular top and bottom faces, opposing substantially rectangular longitudinal front and back faces and opposing substantially rectangular transverse left and right side faces; and a plurality of device ports for operably connecting external power devices to the power manger disposed on one or more of the left and right side faces and on only one of the front and back faces. | 01-13-2011
