Multiplayer Peer-to-Peer Connection Across Firewalls and Network Address Translators Using a Single Local Port on the Local Host - A system for providing peer-to-peer connections includes a plurality of host devices behind corresponding NATs; and a plurality of STUN servers. Each host device includes first and second sockets respectively bound to first and second private ports. Each host device sends a first STUN packet through the first socket to a first STUN server and a second group of STUN packets through the second socket to the STUN servers via public ports of the corresponding NAT. The STUN servers identify the public port numbers of the public ports. Each host device calculates a predicted public port number of the corresponding NAT for the second socket, based on the public port numbers of the public ports for the first socket and the second socket, the predicted public port number to be used for peer-to-peer connection between the second socket of the host device and other host devices. | 09-24-2009

ELECTRICAL MICROVALVE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THEREOF - The present invention relates to a microvalve for controlling a fluid flow in a microchannel, to a microfluidic circuit using the microvalve, and to a manufacturing method thereof. The microvalve has a first electrode located on a portion of the microchannel, a second electrode over the microchannel and substantially aligned with the first electrode forming a membrane with substantially no resilience. In function, upon application of an electric force on the first and second electrodes, the second electrode draws nearer the first electrode, thus obstructing the microchannel. The microfluidic circuit comprises multiple microchannels and at least one microvalve affixed to one of the multiple microchannels, wherein the at least one microvalve is adapted to indirectly actuate a flexible valve adapted to regulate a flow of fluid in another one of a multiplicity of microchannels. | 04-29-2010
PASSIVE PREPROGRAMMED LOGIC SYSTEMS USING KNOTTED/STRTCHABLE YARNS and THEIR USE FOR MAKING MICROFLUIDIC PLATFORMS - We describe various methods for making preprogrammed logic systems using knotted yarns. We show that the topology of the knots controls the mixing ratio of the reagents coming into the knots, and thus the ratio can be adjusted by choosing a specific knot. A serial dilutor is built by knotting multiple yarns into a web of well defined dimension. In addition stretchable yarn can be used to control the capillary pressure and hence the flow rate of the liquid, by pulling the yarn. Furthermore, we demonstrate the possibility of patterning impermeable/hydrophobic regions in to the yarn. Finally, we propose that biodegradable yarns can be used into these platforms to build various multi/single cellular scaffolds. | 05-05-2011

MICROVALVE SYSTEM - There is described a microvalve system having a first body portion having a fluid channel defined in a face, an electrode disposed in the fluid channel and electrically connectable to a power source, a channel membrane disposed over the fluid channel and aligned with the electrode, and a second body portion disposed on the first body portion, the first body portion comprising a liquid receiving cavity aligned with the membrane. The liquid receiving cavity is adapted to receive an electrical conducting liquid that is electrically connectable to the power source. The channel membrane is displaceable towards the electrode upon application of an electrical potential difference between the electrode and the electrical conducting liquid in order to at least partially obstruct the fluid channel. | 02-24-2011

Method for Manufacturing an Emi Shielding Element - A method for manufacturing an EMI shielding element from a sheet of polymer material includes forming the shielding element by vacuum- or pressure-molding. The formed element is then chemically etched to roughen its surface on a microscopic scale. The surface is subsequently treated with a catalyzing solution to enable the shielding element to be plated by electroless plating. A first metallic layer is deposited on the etched and catalyzed surface by electroless plating, and a second metallic layer is deposited on the first by electrolytic plating. | 08-28-2008
