20110069749NONLINEAR EQUALIZER TO CORRECT FOR MEMORY EFFECTS OF A TRANSMITTER - Techniques for correcting for memory effects of a transmitter are described. In an exemplary design, a receiver obtains input samples including a desired signal transmitted by a transmitter having memory effects. The receiver performs nonlinear equalization on the input samples to obtain first equalized samples, performs linear equalization on the input samples to obtain second equalized samples, and determines output samples based on the first and second equalized samples. The nonlinear equalization corrects for the memory effects and nonlinearities of the transmitter and possibly nonlinearities and memory effects of the receiver. The receiver may jointly determine coefficients for both linear and nonlinear equalization based on an adaptive algorithm. The receiver processes (e.g., demodulates and decodes) the output samples to recover data sent in the desired signal by the transmitter.03-24-2011

20100070628SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATIC DETECTION AND COORDINATED DELIVERY OF BURDENSOME MEDIA CONTENT - A networked computing system that is capable of detecting and coordinating the distribution of burdensome media content. The networked computing system includes one or more sending devices, one or more receiving devices, and a data communications network capable of facilitating data communications amongst all networked computing devices. In response to a sending or receiving device generating a data transfer request, an automatic determination is made as to whether the media content is burdensome to a portion of the data communications network over which the media content is to be transferred. The automatic determination may be made by a sending device, a receiving device, or another local network resource (such as a gateway). The determining device may then coordinate the media content transfer based on characteristics of the media content and available network resources.03-18-2010

20110302295SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MODELING INTERDEPENDENCIES IN A NETWORK DATACENTER - The system and method described herein may include a discovery engine that scans a network datacenter to inventory resources in the datacenter and populate a configuration management database with the resource inventory. One or more destination listeners created from the resource inventory may then selectively sample monitored flows in the datacenter to model interdependencies between the inventoried resources. For example, any monitored flows originating outside the datacenter or failing to correlate with the inventoried resources may be dropped, whereby the interdependencies may be modeled from a deliberately reduced sample of the monitored flows that have information relevant to modeling relationships between resources within the datacenter. Furthermore, directionalities for the monitored flows may be determined, wherein the directionalities provide further information relevant to modeling the relationships between the resources within the datacenter.12-08-2011

20090007767Soft-Projectile Gun Barrel and Method for Making Same - A method for making a gun barrel for soft projectiles includes providing a mandrel for the bore of the barrel. The mandrel is inserted into a barrel base that can be connected in use to the receiver of a soft-projectile gun. The connected barrel base and mandrel are inserted into a tube. A resin, preferably reinforced, is poured into the space between the inside of the tube and the mandrel. The barrel base, mandrel and tube are surrounded by a pressure chamber. A vacuum is applied to the pressure chamber to de-gas the resin. Then a positive pressure is applied to the pressure chamber to force the tube against the mandrel and resin to form the desired barrel. The mandrel may have rifling impressions. The tube may have a mold shape for forming an ornamental design in the outside of the barrel. Barrels made by the method are also disclosed.01-08-2009
20090013892CASING FOR SOFT PROJECTILE AND METHOD FOR MAKING SAME - A casing for a relatively soft projectile, such as a projectile for a paintball gun, has a concave portion for receiving a substantially round soft projectile, a driving band located behind the concave portion, and an aerodynamic portion located behind the driving band. The driving band preferably has lands and grooves for engaging rifling in the bore of the gun. The aerodynamic portion may have the approximate shape of a prolate spheroid or a paraboloid of revolution, or another shape that reduces eddy currents and drag behind the projectile. The concave portion of the casing preferably has an adhesive to prevent separation of the casing and projectile in flight. The casing may be solid or hollow; in the later case, it may be filled with a substance such as urethane foam.01-15-2009

20120134966EMBRYONIC STEM CELL SPECIFIC MICRORNAS PROMOTE INDUCED PLURIPOTENCY - The methods of the present application describe that introduction of physiologically relevant miRNAs can enhance or modulate somatic cell reprogramming, generating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells). These miRNAs did not further enhance reprogramming in the presence of cMyc. Furthermore, unlike previously described methods of generating iPS cells, such as through the introduction of genetic elements using viruses, the methods of the present invention reduce the risk of activating oncogenes in the iPS cells. The methods of the invention generate iPS cells that can be free of genetic modifications and thus have greater potential for use as therapeutic agents than those generated by existing methods.05-31-2012

20080217042METHOD FOR MAKING RAIL BONDS - A rail bond for bonding a wire or cable to a surface of rail includes a copper sheet and weld metal material solidified from molten metal material. A copper or other metal sheet is placed against the surface of the rail where the bond is to be located, and against an opening of a chamber of a graphite mold where the molten weld metal material is formed. Molten material is produced into liquid form and flows to the copper sheet material. This causes the copper sheet material to melt and bond against the steel rail. The presence of the copper sheet material between the molten weld metal and the rail surface reduces the amount of heating in the steel rail, and reduces the size of the heat affected zone (HAZ) in the steel rail.09-11-2008
