AUTOMATING TRUST ESTABLISHMENT AND TRUST MANAGEMENT FOR IDENTITY FEDERATION - A federated identity verification system includes an identity provider that provides security tokens ultimately to one or more relying parties for access by the client to services at a relying party. Specifically, the relying party can validate the security token from an identity provider (whether directly or via a client) when verifying that the received security token conforms to security configuration data previously exchanged with the identity provider. To establish the trust relationship, the identity provider and one or more relying parties exchange security configuration information through an agreed-to communication channel. The security configuration information indicates the settings that the other party needs to use for establishing, maintaining, and/or monitoring the trust relationship. The communication channel allows both parties to flexibly and continually synchronize changes to security configurations, and thus maintain, change, or end the trust relationship automatically, as desired. | 12-10-2009

MINIATURE MODEL SKIRMISH GAME MECHANIC - A fantasy role-playing game mechanic method for resolving game actions between game components having associate dynamic assets provides each player with a deck of numbered cards. The player attempting an action involving the game component modifies the dynamic asset value of the game component by selecting a card from the deck and adding the number value of the card to the dynamic asset value of the game component and compares the modified dynamic asset value with a predetermined target number to determine the result of the attempted action. Players can “cheat fate” by drawing cards from the deck to form a control hand, with the player having the option of replacing the selected first card from the deck with a card from the control hand and recalculating the modified dynamic asset value using the card from the control hand. | 12-29-2011

Frame Accurate Content Insertion System - A content insertion system helps digital media providers insert replacement content (e.g., localized commercials) at precisely the right places in the video streams delivered to downstream players. Specifically, with frame accuracy, the system inserts content insertion triggers into the delivered video streams. From a source video input, the system determines the trigger positions at which insertion triggers exist with reference to house timecode. The system then locates the corresponding trigger positions in the output video stream with reference to a framecount of frames generated by a digital encoder. The system inserts corresponding content insertion triggers into the delivered video stream when it locates the corresponding trigger positions. | 12-22-2011

FLUID CONTAINER HAVING MIXING CHAMBERS FOR MICRO-FLUID APPLICATIONS - A consumable supply item for an imaging device holds an initial or refillable volume of pigmented ink. Its housing defines an interior and exterior. The interior retains the ink and an exit port supplies it to an imaging device. Users orient the housing to deplete the ink in a direction of gravity toward a bottom surface of the interior en route to the exit port. The ink passes through a mixing chamber having inlet ports arranged to restrict to multiple different heights the entrance of the volume of ink from the interior. As ink draws from various heights into the chamber, sediments in the pigment mix together. The design overcomes settling. It also avoids mechanical stirring and other complex mixing techniques. Further embodiments include chamber shapes, configuration of inlet ports, and construction of the supply item, to name a few. | 05-03-2012

Hypoxia Induced Mitogenic Factor - We found that FIZZ1/RELMα is inducible by hypoxia in lung. The hypoxia-upregulated expression of FIZZ1/RELMα was located in the pulmonary vasculature, bronchial epithelial cells, and type II pneumocytes. Recombinant FIZZ1/RELMα protein stimulates rat pulmonary microvascular smooth muscle cell (RPSM) proliferation dose-dependently. Therefore, we renamed this gene as hypoxia-induced mitogenic factor (HIMF). HIMF strongly activated Akt phosphorylation. The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor LY294002 inhibits HIMF-activated Akt phosphorylation. It also inhibits HIMF-stimulated RPSM proliferation. Thus, the PI3K/Akt pathway, at least in part, mediates the proliferative effect of HIMF. HIMF also has angiogenic and vasoconstrictive activity. Notably, HIMF increases pulmonary arterial pressure and vascular resistance more potently than either endothelin-1 or angiotensin II. | 01-13-2011

Inhibition of Interaction of PSD93 and PSD95 with nNOS and NMDA Receptors - PSD-95/SAP90 antisense-treated animals not only experience a significant decrease in MAC for isoflurane, but also experience an attenuation in the NMDA-induced increase in isoflurane MAC. PSD-95/SAP90 appears to mediate the role of the NMDA receptor in determining the MAC of inhalational anesthetics. Suppression of the expression of PSD-95/SAP90 in the spinal cord significantly attenuates responses to painful stimuli mediated through the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor activation. In spinal cord neurons PSD-95/SAP90 interacts with the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunits 2A/2B. Activation of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor in spinal hyperalgesia results in association of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor with PSD-95/SAP90. PSD-95/SAP90 is required for hyperalgesia triggered via the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor at the spinal cord level. | 07-30-2009

HIMF AND BTK IN PULMONARY, CARDIAC AND INFLAMMATION DISORDERS - Hypoxia induced mitogenic factor (HIMF) is a member of the “found in inflammatory zone” (FIZZ)/resistin family of proteins and has potent mitogenic, angiogenic, and vasoconstrictive effects in the lung vasculature. The receptor/binding partners for this family of proteins have been largely unknown. We identified Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) as a functional HIMF binding partner through GST-HIMF pull-downs and mass spectrometry. Using primary cultured HIMF-stimulated murine bone marrow cells, we demonstrated that BTK was recruited to the leading edge of the cells. We also demonstrated that BTK and the closely related tyrosine kinase Fyn, colocalized at the growth cone process in these cells. HIMF stimulation induced BTK autophosphorylation, which peaked at 2.5 minutes. A transwell migration assay showed that treatment with recombinant murine HIMF induced migration of primary cultured bone marrow cells, which was completely blocked by the BTK inhibitor, LFM-A13. In vivo studies, using the rat hindlimb ischemia model, revealed that HIMF can stimulate angiogenesis in the hypoxic tissue probably through inducing the migration of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) to areas of active angiogenesis. Our results indicate that HIMF may acts as a chemotactic molecule in stimulating the migration of leukocytes/EPCs from bone marrow to targeted tissues through activation of the BTK pathway. | 02-04-2010
BIOLOGICAL AGENTS ACTIVE IN CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM - Cell-permeant fusion peptides Tat-PDZ can dose-dependently reduce the threshold for anesthesia. PDZ domain-mediated protein interactions at synapses in the central nervous system play an important role in the molecular mechanisms of anesthesia. Moreover, Tat-PDZ cell-permeant fusion peptides are delivered intracellularly into neurons in the central nervous system subsequent to intraperitoneally injection. By in vitro and in vivo binding assays, we found that the Tat-PDZ dose-dependently inhibited the interactions between NMDARs and PSD-95. Furthermore, behavior testing showed that animals given Tat-PDZ exhibited significantly reduced established inflammatory pain behaviors compared to vehicle-treated group. Our results indicate that by disrupting NMDAR/PSD-95 protein interactions, the Tat-PDZ cell-permeable fusion peptides provide a new approach for inflammatory pain therapy. | 08-12-2010
