Ball Screw and Nut Assembly - A ball screw and nut mechanism includes a screw having helical grooves with helical ridges therebetween. A nut is formed from at least two portions and has complementary grooves which in combination with the screw grooves define raceways for at least one closed loop of rolling balls. The nut defines at least first and second seams between the two nut portions. The rolling balls circulate in a closed loop to enable the screw to translate in a linear manner relative to the nut. In the region of at least one seam, the grooves in the nut portions are configured so as to at least partially unload the balls as they roll past the seam. | 05-05-2011

Capacitive Sensing - A multi-channel capacitive sensor for measuring the capacitances of a plurality of sense electrodes to a system reference potential. The sensor comprises a sample capacitor having a first terminal and a second terminal, a first diode having a first terminal coupled to the second terminal of the sample capacitor and a second terminal coupled to a first sense electrode, and a second diode having a first terminal coupled to the second terminal of the sample capacitor and a second terminal coupled to a second sense electrode. The sample capacitor and diodes are coupled to a control circuit, e.g. implemented in a microcontroller. The control circuit is operable to apply a drive signal, e.g. a series of voltage pulses, to the first terminal of the sample capacitor while simultaneously applying a bias signal to the second terminal of one or other of the diodes to prevent the diode from conducting the drive signal. Thus charge transfer techniques can be used to measure multiple capacitances while sharing a common sample capacitor. This helps reduce inter-channel drift. Further measurement channels may be added by providing further diodes and corresponding sense electrodes. With three or more channels the scheme requires only one additional control circuit connection per additional channel. | 09-02-2010

RNA MOLECULES AND USES THEREOF - The present invention relates to substantially single-stranded isolated RNA molecules comprising 18 to 19 contiguous nucleotides that corresponds to a non-protein-coding genomic DNA sequence located between −60 and +120 nucleotides from a transcription start site in a mammalian genome. Specifically, the isolated RNA molecules have a high GC content (>60%), are nuclear specific, and may be associated with aberrant gene regulation and/or transcription in various mammalian diseases and conditions. The isolated RNA molecules, modified RNA molecules and fragments thereof may be particularly useful for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of diseases such as Crohn's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, myocardial infarction, diabetes, congenital developmental disorders, coronary heart disease and cancer such as breast cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, aggressive metastatic brain cancers, colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, ovarian cancer and pituitary tumors. | 10-27-2011

METHOD AND SYSTEM OF CONFIDENCE INTERVAL METHODOLOGY FOR RATIO MEANS - A method and system for determining whether the number of samples taken from a population of units where the distribution of X and Y variables are unknown by evaluating ratio mean measurements on a computer to determine a confidence interval. The method comprising: inputting samples from the total population with each unit sample having at least two variables X and Y; redefining the multivariate data that comprises the two variables X and Y; estimating the mean; computing the standard error; using a bootstrapping method, generating boot strap samples, computing a Z distribution based upon the bootstrap samples; and computing the confidence interval. The system comprises a processor for performing the steps of the method | 03-03-2011

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ORDERING SUPPLIES FOR A MULTIFUNCTION DEVICE - What is disclosed is a novel apparatus and method for effectuating the ordering of supplies via a wireless handset device. In one embodiment, the handset is pre-loaded with a plurality of folders each representing a multifunction device. A user navigates the hierarchy of folders and selects a folder. The user then selects at least one graphical widget contained therein representing a particular supply commodity available for order from a supplier. In response to a user selection thereof, a part number identified by the selected graphical widget and a supplier profile are retrieved from memory. The profile contains the ordering method and contact information. An order message is prepared according to the ordering method prescribed by the profile and is sent to the supplier to place an order for that supply commodity. The process repeats until no more supplies are to be ordered. Additional features, enhancements, and embodiments have been provided. | 07-29-2010
