20120039618SELF-ADAPTIVE RECEIVERS NOT REQUIRING FEC FEEDBACK - Optical communications networks rely on optical receivers to demodulate optical signals and convert the demodulated optical signal into an electrical signal. Optical receivers may be associated with one or more characteristics which can be made to vary during a transmission of an optical signal in order to improve the quality of the received signal. The present invention may determine a value for the characteristics based on an amount of optical filtering on a communications link which transmits the signal. The value for the characteristics of the receiver may be determined by observing a characteristic of a detector associated with the receiver, such as a ratio of the average photocurrents of the constructive and destructive ports of the detector. The observed characteristic of the detector may be mapped to a predetermined value for the characteristic of the receiver in a lookup table, which may be queried during operation of the receiver.02-16-2012

20100049016Noninvasive Transdermal Systems for Detecting an Analyte in a Biological Fluid and Methods - The present invention relates to noninvasive transdermal systems comprised of a noninvasive transdermal patch and a reflectometer. The noninvasive transdermal patches are comprised of a wet chemistry component and a dry chemistry component. The wet chemistry component is a liquid transfer medium in the form of a gel layer for the extraction and liquid bridge transfer of the analyte of interest from the biological fluid within or beneath the skin to the dry chemistry component. The dry chemistry component is a reagent system for interacting with the analyte of interest (glucose) to generate a color change. The reflectometers include a modulated light source for emitting light to illuminate a target surface which possesses a certain color and shade of color for detection by an optical detector. The output signal is processed for determining a corresponding quantity of quality measurement.02-25-2010

20120010646APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TREATMENT OF SINUSITIS - A method of treating a constricted sinus passageway of a patient includes traversing the canine fossa region of the patient so as to form a passageway in the sinus cavity. A cannula is positioned in the passageway. A visualization tool such as an endoscope is passed through a lumen or channel in the cannula to aid in visualization of the anatomical site of interest. A balloon dilation catheter is then deployed through or along the cannula so as to place the balloon within or across the constricted anatomical space (e.g., ostium). The balloon is then expanded so as to expand at least a portion of the constricted anatomical space. Alternative embodiments include the use of an optional guide wire and incorporating a endoscope lumen through the balloon dilation catheter.01-12-2012

20090210202METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SIMULATING QUASI-PERIODIC CIRCUIT OPERATING CONDITIONS USING A MIXED FREQUENCY/TIME ALGORITHM - Described is a process for performing an improved mixed frequency-time algorithm to simulate responses of a circuit that receives a periodic sample signal and at least one information signal. The process selects a set of evenly spaced distinct time points and a set of reference time points. Each of the reference points is associated with a distinct time point, and a reference time point is a signal period away from its respective distinct time point. The process finds a first set of relationships between the values at the distinct time points and the values the reference time points. The process also finds a second set of relationships between the values at the distinct time points and the values at the reference time points. The process then combines the first and second sets of relationships to establish a system of nonlinear equations in terms of the values at the distinct time points only. By solving the system of nonlinear equations, the process finds simulated responses of the circuit in time domain. The process then converts the simulated circuit responses from time domain to frequency domain.08-20-2009
