| 20110056271 | METHOD FOR MEASUREMENT OF CRUDE OIL AND BITUMEN DEAD OIL VISCOSITY AND DENSITY - A process is described for measuring a property of oil extracted from a sample, for example, the viscosity or density. The oil is extracted from the sample using a volatile polar first solvent. A portion of the extracted oil is used to determine a concentration factor. A dry weight of the oil in the sample is calculated using the concentration factor. A second solvent less volatile than the first solvent is added to the remaining extract. The first solvent is substantially removed from the remaining extract. Different amounts of the second solvent are removed from each of a series of sub-samples taken from the remaining extract. Solvent concentrations and viscosity values and/or density values of the solvent-oil mixtures are measured for each sub-sample. Based on the measured solvent concentrations and viscosity values and/or density values, the second-solvent free viscosity and/or density of the oil in the sample is estimated. | 03-10-2011 |

| 20090186658 | JOINT COMMUNICATION AND ELECTROMAGNETIC OPTIMIZATION OF A MULTIPLE-INPUT MULTIPLE-OUTPUT ULTRA WIDEBAND BASE STATION ANTENNA - Recent work has shown that in nearly line-of-sight (LOS) Multiple-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) wireless communication systems, spacing antennas according to the symbol wavelength rather than the carrier wavelength improves multiuser performance. MIMO systems have a heavy reliance on a multipath rich environment, which may not always be present in close range ultra wideband conditions. By adding reflector elements to the antenna structure, this multipath rich environment can be induced. The performance of the users with respect to the arrangement of antennas and reflector elements is a non-linear function that a genetic algorithm (GA) seems applicable for exploiting both symbol-wavelength spacing and multipath inducing reflector elements. A GA optimization is used to determine the optimum characteristics for antennas and reflector elements. MIMO system models with four users, and three, four, and five antennas are considered using a two-dimensional LOS channel with additive white noise. Subsequently, a GA optimization design and approach for solving this problem in three-dimensional space is presented. The addition of reflector elements to purposely increase multipath requires additional design considerations incorporating distributed processing, ray-tracing, and the determination of the channel impulse response. | 07-23-2009 |

| 20080300807 | Electric Winding Displacement Detection Method and Apparatus - A method and system for obtaining the characteristic impedance of an electrical winding by measuring the input and output voltages and the currents within a winding across a low frequency range, and applying transmission line properties to model the winding. The characteristic impedance (Zc) is directly proportional to the capacitance of the winding, and is independent of external circuits. Thus any changes to Zc will reflect movements of the winding that would affect the capacitance. Because Zc has a smooth and robust monotonical relationship with frequency of the applied signal, the resulting curve is exponential in shape. A relative comparison between Zc curves will provide a clear indication of the overall axial or radial winding movements, or winding faults, which can be used to assess the overall health of the winding. | 12-04-2008 |

| 20090101296 | Near Neutral Chlorine Dioxide Bleaching of Pulp - Final chlorine dioxide bleaching of lignocellulosic materials is most effective at a near-neutral pH but present industrial practice typically targets a final pH of between 3.5 and 4.0 because of the difficulty in achieving and maintaining near-neutral pH cost effectively. The in situ formation of bicarbonate before the addition of chlorine dioxide provides a way of maintaining the required near-neutral pH. Near-neutral final chlorine dioxide bleaching also produces a bleached pulp that is in a state that responds more effectively to fluorescent whitening or optical brightening agents. | 04-23-2009 |
