20090095248POWER ASSEMBLY FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH IN-CYLINDER DEPOSIT SCRAPER - A power assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder with a circular wall defining a first inside diameter. A piston is reciprocably housed within the cylinder. An integral, unitary piston deposit scraper is formed in a portion of the circular wall of the cylinder by upsetting a portion of the metallic wall so as to configure a piston scraper with a second inside diameter which is less than the first inside diameter. The inside diameter of the piston scraper closely matches that of the outside diameter of the top land of the piston. As a result, the piston scraper removes combustion deposits from the piston each time it moves into the top dead center position.04-16-2009

20080202376Altitude Compensation System for Naturally Aspirated Railroad Locomotive - A railroad locomotive includes a naturally aspirated reciprocating internal combustion engine driving a traction generator. A speed control system and load regulator provide an output signal which is operated upon and modified by a controller in response to the barometric pressure at which the locomotive is being operated.08-28-2008
20080202377Altitude Compensation System for Controlling Smoke Emissions From a Naturally Aspirated Railroad Locomotive - A railroad locomotive includes a naturally-aspirated reciprocating internal combustion engine, and a traction generator driven by the engine. A throttle position sensor produces a signal corresponding to the throttle position selected by the locomotive's operator. A load regulator receives a speed signal derived from the throttle position signal and outputs an excitation signal for the traction generator which is modified by a controller in response to air availability so that engine speed and load are controlled independently of the selected throttle position, so as to limit the exhaust smoke output of the engine.08-28-2008
20090217912HIGH VISCOSITY FUEL INJECTION PRESSURE REDUCTION SYSTEM AND METHOD - An improved high viscosity fuel injection pressure reduction system and method is disclosed for use in an internal combustion engine. The system may include a first fuel line and a second fuel line. The first fuel line may be configured to be coupled upstream of a combustion chamber of the engine when the engine is operated with the first fuel and to provide a first pressurized volume when installed. Likewise, the second fuel line may be configured to be coupled upstream of the combustion chamber of the engine when the engine is operated with the second fuel and to provide a second pressurized volume when installed. The first and second volumes of the fuel lines may provide peak injection pressures lower than a desired pressure when the engine is operated with the first and second fuels, respectively.09-03-2009

20110132225ALTITUDE COMPENSATION SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING SMOKE EMISSIONS FROM A NATURALLY ASPIRATED RAILROAD LOCOMOTIVE - A railroad locomotive includes a naturally-aspirated reciprocating internal combustion engine, and a traction generator driven by the engine. A throttle position sensor produces a signal corresponding to the throttle position selected by the locomotive's operator. A load regulator receives a speed signal derived from the throttle position signal and outputs an excitation signal for the traction generator which is modified by a controller in response to air availability so that engine speed and load are controlled independently of the selected throttle position, so as to limit the exhaust smoke output of the engine.06-09-2011

20090107241METHOD FOR NON-CONTACT PARTICLE MANIPULATION AND CONTROL OF PARTICLE SPACING ALONG AN AXIS - One or more of the embodiments of the present invention provide for a method of non-contact particle manipulation and control of particle spacing along an axis which includes axial and radial acoustic standing wave fields. Particles are suspended in an aqueous solution, and this solution then flows into the cylindrical flow channel. While the solution flows through the flow channel, the outer structure of the flow channel is vibrated at a resonant frequency, causing a radial acoustic standing wave field to form inside the flow channel in the solution. These radial acoustic standing waves focus the particles suspended in the solution to the center axis of the cylindrical flow channel.04-30-2009
20090128812Method of reducing peak broadening in analytical measurements - A method of reducing peak width in flow-through analytical instrumentation measurements, comprising introducing a sample into an analytical instrument; recording the time required for a plurality of individual analytes within the sample to travel a known distance between a first point and a second point within the analytical instrument to produce a plurality of travel times; recording the time required for a plurality of individual analytes within a sample to travel a known distance between a first point and a second point to produce a plurality of travel times; dividing the travel times into a plurality of groups comprising a fixed number of travel times; assigning a ranking to the travel times within a group; selecting from each group at least one travel time to produce a set of selected travel times; and producing from the set of selected travel times an output signal in the form of a peak.05-21-2009
20090139332Method for non-contact particle manipulation and control of particle spacing along an axis - Method and system for uniformly spacing particles in a flowing system comprising suspending particles in an elongated fluid filled cavity; exposing said cavity to an axial acoustic standing wave field, wherein said axial acoustic standing wave field drives said particles to nodal and anti-nodal positions along the center axis of said cavity to result in uniformly spaced particles; and focusing said particles to the center axis of said cavity.06-04-2009
