20090118750Chisel System for Osteochondral Implants and A Surgical Procedure Involving Same - A chisel system for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, according to which a module is provided that has one end connected to a handle. A cutting surface is formed at the other end of the module that cuts through the cartilage and condyle.05-07-2009
20100094255CANNULATED SENSING DEVICE - A cannulated sensing device is disclosed and can include a housing that can have a proximal end and a distal end. A cannula can extend from the proximal end of the housing to the distal end of the housing. Further, a sensor can be attached to the distal end of the housing.04-15-2010
20100099066Surgical Training System and Model With Simulated Neural Responses and Elements - A training apparatus, model, system, and method are disclosed that allows any trainee to train to perform surgeries in areas of the human body that include one or more nerves. The training model is configured to mimic one or more areas of the human anatomy in which the procedure is going to be performed that contains nerves by providing a realistic anatomical model of the area of interest. A neural element is positioned in the anatomical area of interest that is configured to behave like a real nerve. A neural monitoring system is utilized to ensure that while using specially designed surgical tools or devices during the procedure, the surgeon is trained to avoid taking actions that would adversely affect the functionality of the nerves located in this area after the surgery.04-22-2010
20100108761Automated Pass-Through Surgical Instrument Tray Reader - An apparatus and method for interrogating and automatically identifying a radio-frequency tagged surgical instrument tray and its contents of RFID-tagged surgical instruments are disclosed. The surgical instrument tray and its contents come into contact with an RF signal transmitted by the RFID reader, and as a result, the RFID tags affixed on the instrument tray and the surgical instruments respond by transmitting back to the RFID reader data pertaining to the history of the surgical instruments. A data terminal, which is connected to the RFID reader, may contain data pertaining to the radio frequency tagged surgical instruments during packaging, and during the return of the surgical instrument trays to the packager, identifies the surgical instruments.05-06-2010
20100234954SPINAL IMPLANT AND METHODS OF IMPLANTATION AND TREATMENT - A spinal implant is provided that includes a first component for engaging a first vertebra, a second component for engaging a second vertebrae, and a damping member is positioned therebetween. The damping member has at least two chambers connected by an opening. A fluid is disposed within the chambers such that compression of the first and second components towards one another causes the fluid to be displaced from one of the chambers to another chamber through an opening. The opening has a reduced size relative to the chambers to restrict the flow of the fluid between the chambers and provide a dampening effect. In some instances, the rheologic properties of the fluid positioned within the chambers are dependent upon the strength a magnetic field passing through the fluid. In other aspects of the present disclosure, prosthetic devices, intervertebral implants, spinal systems, implantation methods, and treatment methods are provided.09-16-2010
20100249657Method and Apparatus for Aligning and Securing an Implant Relative to a Patient - A surgical apparatus includes an orientation sensor that detects an actual orientation of a surgical tool. The apparatus also includes an orientation feedback device that selectively provides an orientation feedback signal. Moreover, the apparatus includes a controller that causes the orientation feedback device to provide the orientation feedback signal when the actual orientation of the surgical tool detected by the orientation sensor is substantially equal to a predetermined target orientation of the surgical tool.09-30-2010
20100249796Method and Apparatus for Aligning and Securing an Implant Relative to a Patient - A surgical instrument for implanting a prosthetic member. The instrument includes an orientation sensor that detects an initial orientation of the prosthetic member and an implanting orientation of the prosthetic member. The instrument further includes a memory module and an input device that receives a user input to transfer the initial orientation detected by the orientation sensor into the memory module for storage. Furthermore, the instrument includes an orientation feedback device that selectively provides an orientation feedback signal to a user. Moreover, the instrument includes a controller that causes the orientation feedback device to provide the orientation feedback signal when the implanting orientation detected by the orientation sensor is substantially equal to the initial orientation stored in the memory module.09-30-2010
20100249932Materials, Devices and Methods for Intervertebral Stabilization Via Use of In Situ Shape Recovery - A deformable implant and a method for expanding an intervertebral disc space are provided. The method may include selecting a deformable implant with a predetermined physical configuration and deforming aspects, including temperature. The deformable implant of some embodiments is heated above the transition temperature or deforming temperature, collapsed to a collapsed configuration and cooled below the transition temperature. The collapsed implant may be inserted into the disc space without distracting adjacent vertebrae. The inserted implant absorbs ambient body heat and expands in place to a final shape thereby distracting adjacent vertebrae to expand the disc space.09-30-2010
20100268261OSTEOCHONDRAL IMPLANT FIXATION PROCEDURE AND BONE DILATOR USED IN SAME - A surgical procedure for implanting a graft according to which a dilator is inserted in a recipient opening and the graft is inserted in the dilator to cause outward expansion of the dilator into engagement with the portion of a bone surrounding the opening. After the dilator is removed from the opening, the bone surrounding the opening collapses around the graft to secure the graft in the opening.10-21-2010
20100268278TENSION BAND - Various embodiments of a vertebral tension band assembly and associated connection structure are provided. The tension band assemblies may be attached to vertebral bodies to, for example, connect one vertebrae to another, retain the band in approximately a preferred position by application of tension to the band during insertion and/or limit, impede, inhibit, reduce or interfere with the separation from one vertebra to another and may further block, impede, interfere with, inhibit, reduce or present an obstacle to dislodgement of a spinal implant from between the vertebrae to which it is attached. Flexible band portions of the assemblies may be treated and/or configured to promote bony integration between the band and the associated vertebrae, limit tissue adhesion to the band, and/or to elute a therapeutic substance from the installed band to the surgical site.10-21-2010
20110035025OSTEOCHONDRAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE - A surgical procedure for preparing a damaged area of a human knee to receive at least one graft, according to which a moldable material is positioned over the damaged area and removed after it hardens. The mold is used as a template to determine the number and/or a dimension of the openings to be formed in the damaged area for receiving corresponding grafts.02-10-2011
20110160587VOLUMETRIC MEASUREMENT AND VISUAL FEEDBACK OF TISSUES - Apparatus and methods for assessing tissue characteristics such as the dimensions and volume of an osteolytic lesion are disclosed. The apparatus may utilize ultrasound to provide visual and volumetric feedback related to a lesion or other tissue. Further the apparatus may be utilized to determine whether the lesion has been completely removed and filled with the appropriate amount of graft material.06-30-2011
