20100248451Method for Laser Singulation of Chip Scale Packages on Glass Substrates - An improved method for singulation of compound electronic devices is presented. Compound electronic devices are manufactured by combining two or more substrates into an assembly containing multiple devices. Presented are methods for singulation of compound electronic devices using laser processing. The methods presented provide fewer defects such as cracking or chipping of the substrates while minimizing the width of the kerf and maintaining system throughput.09-30-2010

20110035555METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AFFINITY-GUIDED SPECULATIVE HELPER THREADS IN CHIP MULTIPROCESSORS - Apparatus, system and methods are provided for performing speculative data prefetching in a chip multiprocessor (CMP). Data is prefetched by a helper thread that runs on one core of the CMP while a main program runs concurrently on another core of the CMP. Data prefetched by the helper thread is provided to the helper core. For one embodiment, the data prefetched by the helper thread is pushed to the main core. It may or may not be provided to the helper core as well. A push of prefetched data to the main core may occur during a broadcast of the data to all cores of an affinity group. For at least one other embodiment, the data prefetched by a helper thread is provided, upon request from the main core, to the main core from the helper core's local cache.02-10-2011

20110091181Coated Optical Fibers and Related Apparatuses, Links, and Methods for Providing Optical Attenuation - Coated optical fibers and related apparatuses, links, and methods for optically attenuating light directed to or from optical fibers are disclosed. In one embodiment, an optical fiber includes an optical fiber end. The optical fiber end may be a source end and/or a detector end, and may be angle-cleaved. A coating material is disposed on at least a portion of the optical fiber end and configured to optically attenuate a portion of light directed to the optical fiber end. The material type of the coating material and/or the thickness of the coating material may be selectively controlled to control the amount of optical attenuation. The thickness of the coating material may also be controlled to provide the desired thickness of coating material onto at least a portion of the optical fiber end. The coating material may also be selectively patterned to improve the bandwidth of a multi-mode optical link.04-21-2011

20080266833Illuminated Rigid Body Using Contiguously Illuminated Light Source - A rigid light-passing body is disclosed. Within the body, an electroluminescent strand is supported in a predetermined configuration. In some embodiments, the body may be tubular, with the electroluminescent strand configured in spaced-apart windings around a support extending through the tubular body. In other embodiments related to area lighting, windings or strands may be closely spaced, or touching so that the windings or strands are self-supporting in their predetermined configuration. In other embodiments, there may be multiple strands that produce light of differing colors, the multiple strands attached to a support. The rigid body may also be a spherical shape, with a support therein for supporting at least one electroluminescent strand. For most embodiments, a housing is provided that includes an inverter and battery carrier for providing electrical power to the electroluminescent strand. In other embodiments, electrical power may be provided from an external source.10-30-2008

20090057157EFAB Methods Including Controlled Mask to Substrate Mating - Embodiments include treatment of substrates, formation of structures, and formation of multilayer structures using contact masks where a controlled mating of the contact masks and substrates is used. Some embodiments involve controlled mating at speeds equal to or less than 10 microns/second, more preferably equal to or less than 5 microns/second, and even more preferably equal to or less than 1 micron/second. Some embodiments involve controlled mating that uses a higher speed of approach when further away followed by a slower speed of approach to cause mating. Some embodiments involve controlled mating that uses a higher speed of approach when making preliminary contact, then backing away a desired distance, and then making a mating approach that causes mating while using a slower mating speed.03-05-2009

20120035737TIBIAL PROSTHESIS - A tibial prosthesis has a bearing component configured for an anterior-medial insertion, which advantageously avoids the extensor mechanism of the knee. A tibial tray may include a banana-shaped boss that corresponds to a notch formed in the bearing component. After the bearing component is inserted along the anterior-medial path, the boss is received within the notch by rotating the bearing component with respect to the tibial tray. This rotation seat the bearing component upon the tibial tray in the manner of a fixed-bearing prosthesis. Alternatively, the boss and notch may define angled central axes which allow straight anterior-medial insertion of the bearing component and locking engagement to the tibial tray.02-09-2012

20090251841INCORPORATING ELECTROSTATIC PROTECTION INTO MINIATURE CONNECTORS - Electrostatic discharge protection, also known as ESD protection, is provided in the form of a discrete array with a voltage variable material (VVM) or a VVM device. The array is fabricated with a common electrode for connection to ground, and one or more electrodes configured for connection to an electrical component. The electrical component is a connector attached to an electrical circuit containing devices subject to damage by ESD events. The array is placed into a pocket or space on the connector and is held in place mechanically by spring force or by soldering to leads or electrodes of the connector. The array may be soldered to a ground connection or held in place by pressure, such as from a spring or from an outer housing or shell. In some embodiments, the array is removable from the component without affecting component circuits other than removal of ESD protection.10-08-2009
