ACTUATOR FOR A WASTEGATE OR A VARIABLE TURBINE GEOMETRY DEVICE AND METHOD OF ACTUATION - An actuator has a rotary drive and a threaded element for converting the rotary motion of the rotary drive into a reciprocating motion of a tappet connected to a hinged wastegate and/or to a variable turbine geometry device of an exhaust gas turbocharger. The tappet and/or an axle between the tappet and the threaded element is received in at least one guide comprising at least one web and allowing for at least a slight tilting or pivoting movement of the tappet in at least one direction. At least some play is present between the web and at least one broadened portion on the tappet and/or on the axle. Methods of actuating a wastegate and/or a variable turbine geometry device. | 02-16-2012

SYNCHRONOUS RECTIFIER HAVING PRECISE ON/OFF SWITCHING TIME - A synchronous rectifier, including an energy storage element having a terminal; a power supply input, connected to the terminal of the storage element in a first time interval; a reference line connected to the terminal of the storage element in a second time interval; and a zero comparator, coupled to the terminal of the storage element to detect a current flowing in the energy storage element and disconnect the terminal of the storage element from the reference line upon detecting a zero current, the zero comparator having an offset and a propagation time; the zero comparator further having an offset control input and an output. An offset regulating loop is coupled between the output of the zero comparator and the offset control input and regulates the offset of the zero comparator to compensate the propagation time. | 09-04-2008

Ultrafine nepheline syenite - A useable particulate nepheline syenite having a grain size to provide an Einlehner Abrasive Value of less than about 100 is described. The particulate nepheline syenite is generally free from agglomeration and moisture free. At least 99% of the nepheline syenite particles have a size less than 10 microns. In practice, the nepheline syenite grain size is less than about 5 microns and the distribution profile of the particulate system is generally 4-5 microns. | 05-07-2009
METHOD OF PROCESSING NEPHELINE SYENITE - A method of processing a useable particulated nepheline syenite including providing particulate nepheline syenite with a maximum first grain size; milling the nepheline syenite in a ball mill operated substantially dry to produce a dry feed stock with particles less than a given size; and, using an air classifier to remove particles having a second grain size from the feed stock to provide an Einlehner Abrasive Value of less than about 100. In practice the second grain size is less than 5 microns and the distribution profile is generally 4-5 microns. The product produced by the method is, thus, novel. | 12-02-2010

Eyewear with Segmented Look-Through Elements - An eyewear is described comprising two segmented look-through elements each comprising an upper and a lower segment, wherein the upper segments are provided with means to selectively direct an image to the left and/or to the right eye. Preferably, said means are configured as LCD shutter glasses, optically polarized glasses, red and green glasses or as display units. The two lower segments of the two look-through elements are preferably configured as normal glasses including a pair of magnifying glasses. The eyewear can be used in a variety of environments including, in particular, the medical field and industrial processes. Furthermore, a system is described comprising such an eyewear as well as a display device to be looked at by means of said eyewear. | 03-04-2010

Acoustic Deterrence - A method and system of deterring mammals is disclosed involving incurring an acoustic startle response comprising the steps of selecting a target order, family, genus or species to be deterred, selecting a received level that is a predetermined level above a representative hearing threshold of the targeted mammals, and, taking transmission loss into account, transmitting an acoustic signal at a source level required to create the selected received level at a predetermined distance from the transmission point. The acoustic signal may comprise frequency components at which the aural sensitivity of the targeted mammals is greater than that of selected other animals, preventing the disturbance of the selected other animals whilst deterring the targeted mammals. In addition, a secondary conditioning sound may be played prior to the main acoustic signal to condition the mammals to avoid the main stimulus. Furthermore, using the same steps, an aversive stimulus may be played that elicits an avoidance without a startle reflex. The characteristics of these aversive sounds are those found to be unpleasant to humans. Accordingly, the aversive sound is selected to have one or more of the following psychophysical features: high roughness; low tonality; high loudness; high sharpness. | 05-06-2010
