| 20100118493 | MOTOR DRIVE WITH HEAT PIPE AIR COOLING - An air cooled switching unit for a motor drive includes a plurality electrical switches and a plurality of heat pipe assemblies. Each heat pipe assembly includes a thermally and electrically conductive evaporator, a condenser, and at least one heat pipe extending between the evaporator and condenser. Each of the switches is abutted with an evaporator of at least one of the heat pipe assemblies for conduction of both electrical power and heat between the switch and the evaporator. Each heat pipe assembly further includes an electrically conductive base abutted with the evaporator, and the air cooled switching unit further includes a plurality of power lugs each connected to a base of a respective one of the heat pipe assemblies for input or output of electrical power to the base and the evaporator plate abutted with the base. Each heat pipe assembly includes at least one evaporator defined by a metallic plate. The condenser of each heat pipe assembly includes a plurality of parallel spaced-apart cooling fins. The at least one heat pipe of each heat pipe assembly includes a sealed pipe containing a phase-change material for transferring heat from said evaporator to said condenser. The at least one heat pipe includes a first end located in the metallic plate and a second end in contact with and extending through the cooling fins of the condenser. A temperature feedback system derives air flow velocity through the condenser. | 05-13-2010 |
| 20100147572 | Electrical Device, System and Method for Operating with Reduced Acoustic Noise Generation - Disclosed herein is a device for reducing noise generated by an electrical component, the device including a stiffening component secured to an electrical component, wherein the stiffening component provides rigidity to the electrical component, thereby reducing the mechanical resonance of the electrical component during operation. The electrical component has at least one end face and a flange portion that includes a flange face that extends about a perimeter of the end face. The flange face is substantially parallel to the end face, wherein the stiffening component is secured to the flange face of the electrical component such that it does not extend into a plane of the end face. Further, the stiffening component can include a stiffening portion and a securing portion, wherein the stiffening portion is secured to the flange face of the electrical component by the securing portion. Further, the electrical component can be a power semiconductor device. | 06-17-2010 |
| 20110292604 | AIR COOLING OF MEDIUM VOLTAGE DRIVE COMPONENTS - A parallel redundant fan system includes at least first and second fans located adjacent each other. Each fan includes: (i) a fan housing defining a fan chamber in which an impeller is supported for rotation about an axis of rotation; (ii) a first chamber outlet in communication with the fan chamber and defined by an opening in a first wall of the fan housing; (iii) a second chamber outlet in communication with the fan chamber and defined by an opening in a second wall of the fan housing; and, (iii) first and second backflow prevention dampers respectively associated with the first and second chamber outlets. The first and second dampers respectively include first and second damper plates that selectively pivot from their closed positions toward their opened positions against the closing force of respective first and second counterweights in response to exhaust air flow pressure exerted thereon. | 12-01-2011 |
