20110034691Process for the Production of Fused, Tricyclic Sulfonamides - The present invention provides methods, i.e., scalable or large-scale processes for the production of fused, tricyclic sulfonamido analogs, such as substituted or unsubstituted 5-(aryl-sulfonyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]quinolines and 5-(heteroaryl-sulfonyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]quinolines. Exemplary methods of the invention include an intra-molecular cyclization step, in which a carbon-nitrogen bond is formed, and which employs a copper-based catalyst that contains at least one organic ligand, such as DMEDA. The invention further provides compounds, which are useful as intermediates in the methods of the invention.02-10-2011

20100210743AMINATION OF VINYL AROMATIC POLYMERS WITH TERTIARY AMINES - The invention generally relates to amination reactions and amination reaction products, and particularly to methods for aminating vinyl aromatic polymers utilizing tertiary amines. In one embodiment, the invention includes conducting an amination reaction by combining a tertiary amine and a vinyl aromatic polymer comprising benzyl chloride groups to form a reaction mixture and maintaining the pH of the reaction mixture within a designated range. In another embodiment, the invention includes an aminated vinyl aromatic polymer. In yet another embodiment, the invention includes an ion exchange resin including quaternary ammonium functionality. The invention is useful in preparing ion exchange resins suitable for a variety of applications such as the removal of perchlorate ions from water sources and recovery of gold cyanide from mining leach solutions.08-19-2010

20090056369Chilling apparatus - An apparatus for chilling beverage containers such as bottles or cans includes a fluid tank containing chilling liquid cooled by a refrigeration unit and a membrane of collapsible thermoplastic polyurethane includes an internal chamber for supporting the container in the liquid, the membrane in the form of a shaped sleeve that surrounds the container to prevent the container coming into direct contact with the chilling liquid but which permits the liquid to transfer heat from the container to cool the contents of the container. A vacuum withdraws air from the internal chamber to draw the membrane into contact with the container and a drive arrangement rotates the sleeve and bottle. A refrigerated fluid supply system directs externally chilled fluid at the rotating membrane and recycles heated fluid for rechilling.03-05-2009

20090041826Tissue Implant and Process for Its Production - The present invention relates to a process for producing an implant for medical purposes, to the implant obtainable by the process, and to the bioreactor used for the production of the implant. The implants of the invention can be used as implantable prostheses having essentially the functional characteristics of the following tissues: ligaments and tendons, bone and chondrogenic tissues, e.g. intervertebral discs, and combinations of bone tissue with cartilage tissue, e.g. sections of joints having the cartilaginous surface of a joint surface hacked by bone tissue. According to the invention, a porous matrix material is incubated under cell culture conditions with cells while the matrix is exposed to positive pressure on one side and negative pressure on another side for effective colonization of the matrix.02-12-2009
