20090122643METHOD FOR ACOUSTIC IMAGING OF THE EARTH'S SUBSURFACE USING A FIXED POSITION SENSOR ARRAY AND BEAM STEERING - A method for seismic surveying includes disposing a plurality of seismic sensors in a selected pattern above an area of the Earth's subsurface to be evaluated. A seismic energy source is repeatedly actuated proximate the seismic sensors. Signals generated by the seismic sensors, indexed in time with respect to each actuation of the seismic energy source are recorded. The recorded signals are processed to generate an image corresponding to at least one point in the subsurface. The processing includes stacking recordings from each sensor for a plurality of actuations of the source and beam steering a response of the seismic sensors such that the at least one point is equivalent to a focal point of a response of the plurality of sensors.05-14-2009

20090207694ULTRASONIC IN-BUILDING POSITIONING SYSTEM BASED ON PHASE DIFFERENCE ARRAY WITH RANGING - A method for determining position of a mobile electronic device includes emitting an acoustic pulse from the position of the mobile electronic device. The acoustic pulse is detected at a known position at three spaced apart locations along each of at least two lines extending in different directions. The range and phase difference of the acoustic pulse between each of the detecting locations is determined. A relative position of the device with respect to the known position is obtained from the range and phase differences.08-20-2009
20090314489ACOUSTIC IMAGING WHILE CUTTING - A method and apparatus for radially cutting tubulars in a downhole environment by emitting acoustic energy into the jet, the acoustic energy having a wavelength selected such that the jet acts as a waveguide, detecting reflected acoustic energy in the jet, and determining the depth of cut from a travel time of the acoustic energy.12-24-2009
20090325598METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING POSITION OF A WIRELESS ELECTRONIC DEVICE WITHIN A VOLUME - A method for determining a position of a wireless electronic device within a volume includes detecting a signal transmitted by the wireless device during two-way communication to and from a first known position within the volume. The method further includes detecting the signal from at least three additional known positions within the volume, where the at least three additional known positions are spatially independent of each other. The method further includes determining a phase difference between the signal detected at the first position and the signal detected at each of the at least three additional positions, determining the position of the wireless electronic device using the phase differences, and at least one of displaying and storing the position of the wireless electronic device.12-31-2009
20100142326Method For Identifying Gas Leaks Using A Stationary Seabed Placed Steered Beamformed Acoustic Antenna With Active Narrow Beam Transmitter Interrogation Capability - A method for identifying position of acoustic source proximate sediments below the bottom of a body of water includes deploying a plurality of arrays of acoustic sensors on the bottom of the body of water. Each array includes a plurality of lines of acoustic sensors disposed in a substantially radial pattern. The arrays have a center to center distance therebetween of about twice a diameter of each of the arrays. Signals are detected from each of the sensors for a selected time period. A direction of the acoustic source with respect to each of the arrays is determined by steering a response of the sensors in each array. A range of the acoustic source is determined using the determined directions.06-10-2010
20100315906HAND-HELD ACOUSTIC CAMERA - An acoustic camera includes an acoustic transmitter disposed at one longitudinal end of a housing. The transmitter has a convex radiating surface. A diameter of the transmitter is about four times a wavelength of acoustic energy emitted by the transmitter. A plurality of acoustic receivers is disposed at spaced locations in a pattern extending laterally from the housing. A signal processor is in signal communication with the acoustic receivers. The signal processor is configured to cause the acoustic receivers to be sensitive along steered beams. The signal processor is configured to cause an end of the steered beams to move through a selected pattern within a beam width of the acoustic energy emitted by the acoustic transmitter. The signal processor is configured to operate a visual display device to generate a visual representation corresponding to acoustic energy detected by the acoustic receivers. A visual display device is in signal communication with the signal processor.12-16-2010
20100328138SHORT BASELINE HELICOPTER POSITIONING RADAR FOR LOW VISIBILITY - A method for determining position and orientation of a rotating wing aircraft (e.g. helicopter) with respect to a ground station includes transmitting an electromagnetic signal from the aircraft. The signal includes a plurality of electromagnetic signals, each signal having a different selected frequency. The signal is detected at an array of sensors disposed on the ground surface in a selected pattern. The array includes at least one reference sensor and at least three spaced apart time difference determination sensors. A difference in arrival time of the signals between the reference sensor and each of the time difference determination sensors is determined and a spatial position of the aircraft is determined from the time differences.12-30-2010
