20080243079Rechargeable battery backup apparatus and method for insulin pump - An apparatus and method for allowing an operator of a portable infusion device continue to operate the device after the primary battery source becomes depleted. The invention contemplates providing a secondary, rechargeable battery in addition to the primary battery, to allow the infusion device to operate even in the instance of a sudden drop in primary battery voltage. The apparatus includes a housing accommodating a syringe, where the syringe contains a liquid to be infused. Also included is a motor, a drive system operatively connected to the motor, where the drive system advances a piston of the syringe in order to expel the liquid from a barrel of the syringe. A power source is in electrical contact with and supplies power to the motor. The power source includes a primary battery module, and a rechargeable battery module, wherein the primary battery source supplies power to the rechargeable battery module. The result is a fail-safe system of alerting the user of low or critical battery conditions.10-02-2008

20110279883POLARIZING PHOTOCHROMIC ARTICLES - Provided are photochromic articles that include a substrate, a primer layer that includes a first photochromic compound, and a photochromic-dichroic layer over the primer layer that includes a photochromic-dichroic compound. The first photochromic compound and the photochromic-dichroic compound each are selected such that the photochromic-dichroic compound has an absorbance of less than or equal to 0.1 at the wavelength of peak absorbance of the underlying first photochromic compound. The present invention also relates to such photochromic articles that further include a topcoat layer over the photochromic-dichroic layer. The topcoat layer can include a second photochromic compound that has an absorbance of less than 0.1 at the wavelength of peak absorbance of the underlying photochromic-dichroic compound. The photochromic articles provide, for example, a combination of linear polarizing properties, and reduced percent transmittance when in a colored or darkened state, such as when exposed to actinic light.11-17-2011

20080298425Method and apparatus for melting metals using both alternating current and direct current - A furnace for melting metals includes a crucible, a direct current arc source and an induction coil powered by alternating current. The furnace is particularly useful for melting charges of highly reactive metals such as titanium, zirconium and their alloys without contaminating these charges. The direct current arc source melts generally from the inside out while the water-cooled induction coil serves to cool the crucible and form a skull along the crucible sidewall which protects the crucible from interacting with the molten metal. The induction coil is thus used for cooling as well as heating and stirring the melt, and helps control the thickness of the skull.12-04-2008

20120027371VIDEO SUMMARIZATION USING VIDEO FRAMES FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES - The video summarization system and method supports a moving sensor or multiple sensors by mapping imagery back to a common ortho-rectified geometry. The video summarization system includes at least one video sensor to acquire video data, of at least one area of interest (AOI), including video frames having a plurality of different perspectives. The video sensor may be a moving sensor or a plurality of sensors to acquire video data, of the at least one AOI, from respective different perspectives. A memory stores the video data, and a processor is configured to cooperate with the memory to register video frames from the AOI, ortho-rectify registered video frames based upon a common geometry, identify events within the ortho-rectified registered video frames, and generate a video summary of selected events shifted in time within a selected AOI based upon identified events within the ortho-rectified registered video frames.02-02-2012

20110081054MEDICAL IMAGE ANALYSIS SYSTEM FOR DISPLAYING ANATOMICAL IMAGES SUBJECT TO DEFORMATION AND RELATED METHODS - A medical image analysis system is for first and second anatomical image data of a same body area and subject to deformation. The medical image analysis system may include a processor cooperating with a memory to generate a deformation vector array between the first and second anatomical image data. The processor may also display, on a display, first and second anatomical images respectively based upon the first and second anatomical image data. A first cursor may be displayed on the first anatomical image, and a second cursor may be displayed on the second anatomical image based upon a mapping of the first cursor using the deformation vector array.04-07-2011
20110081055MEDICAL IMAGE ANALYSIS SYSTEM USING N-WAY BELIEF PROPAGATION FOR ANATOMICAL IMAGES SUBJECT TO DEFORMATION AND RELATED METHODS - A medical image analysis system is for first and second anatomical image data of a same body area and subject to deformation, with the first and second anatomical image data including respective first and second sets of voxels. The medical image analysis system may include a processor cooperating with a memory and configured to generate a plurality of cost arrays, with each cost array based upon probabilities of a subset of voxels of the second anatomical image data matching voxels of the first anatomical image data. The processor may also solve each cost array using three-dimensional, N-way belief propagation to thereby generate a deformation vector array between the first and second anatomical image data, where N is an integer greater than or equal to six.04-07-2011
20110081061MEDICAL IMAGE ANALYSIS SYSTEM FOR ANATOMICAL IMAGES SUBJECT TO DEFORMATION AND RELATED METHODS - A medical image analysis system is for first and second anatomical image data of a same body area and subject to deformation. The first and second anatomical image data includes respective first and second sets of voxels. The medical image analysis system includes a processor cooperating with a memory to generate a respective reach array for each voxel of the second anatomical image data, with each reach array being a subset of contiguous voxels. The processor also generates a cost array for each reach array, with each cost array based upon probabilities of voxels of the reach array matching voxels of the first anatomical image data. The processor may also solve each cost array using belief propagation to thereby generate a deformation vector array between the first and second anatomical image data.04-07-2011
