20100045343Current Limited Voltage Supply - A current limited voltage supply including a transistor and a capacitor is provided for powering digital logic cells of an integrated circuit. The transistor is connected in a current mirror configuration, such that a constant reference current is mirrored through the transistor to create a first supply current. The transistor is coupled to the digital logic cells and the capacitor. The first supply current is used to charge the capacitor while the digital logic cells are not switching. While the digital logic cells are switching, the capacitor discharges to the digital logic cells, thereby providing the digital logic cells with sufficient energy to implement high-speed switching. The capacitor minimizes voltage fluctuations within in the current limited voltage supply, such that analog circuitry can be reliably powered from a different branch of the same current mirror circuit.02-25-2010

20110005590Tandem Photoelectrochemical Cell for Water Dissociation - A tandem photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell including a nitride PEC semiconductor connected in series with a current matched photovoltaic (PV) Si solar cell that provides an internal biasing voltage. A low resistance tunnel junction is formed between the PEC semiconductor and PV cell. The tandem PEC cell is placed together with a counter electrode in contact with an aqueous solution, such that, when exposed to solar radiation, the PEC semiconductor utilizes high energy photons to split water while the PV cell utilizes low energy photons to bias the tandem PEC cell to eliminate the barrier between Fermi energy and redox potentials, thereby initiating the spontaneous dissociation of water in the aqueous solution into hydrogen and oxygen. The conduction band edge (CBE) for n-type PEC semiconductor is located in the vicinity of the Fermi stabilization energy to reduce the barriers for the charge transfer between the PEC semiconductor and the aqueous solution.01-13-2011

20090108820Topology for a positive buck-boost switching regulator - A new topology for a buck-boost switching regulator is provided herein. Embodiments provide an efficient buck-boost switching regulator that provides a regulated output voltage from an unregulated input voltage. Embodiments include a buck-boost switching regulator topology, where the operating mode is determined separately from the pulse-width modulated (PWM) control signal. This topology, in one embodiment, provides a better transient response than typical buck-boost switching regulator topologies, where PWM control circuitry and operating mode circuitry are combined. Furthermore, embodiments provide a buck-boost switching regulator that allows for high efficiency when the output voltage is close to the input voltage.04-30-2009
20110121805Active Power Switch Topology for Switching Regulators - Embodiments of an active power switch topology for a switching regulator are provided herein. The embodiments of the active power switch topology use two or more active power switches in parallel instead of a single active power switch, as found in conventional implementations. The active power switches are controlled such that they turn-on and -off in a manner that reduces parasitic voltage spikes associated with conventional switching regulators, while not degrading efficiency or other parameters associated with the switching regulator. The active power switch topology can be beneficially used within many switching regulators (e.g., buck, boost, or buck-boost) and, in particular, within hard-switched switching regulators that include active power switches integrated on chip.05-26-2011

20110278891MODULAR CONTOUR SUPPORT APPARATUS - A four way lumbar support for an automobile seat includes a wire array, a fixed frame, and a basculating arm. When in its extended position, the basculating arm exerts pressure on the wire array thus providing lumbar support to the seat occupant at that point. A system of cables and sliding connections allows the basculating arm to slide along the fixed frame so that the lumbar support may be provided at different heights within the seat.11-17-2011

20080239602FAST IMPEDANCE PROTECTION TECHNIQUE IMMUNE TO DYNAMIC ERRORS OF CAPACITIVE VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS - The present invention relates to methods for providing impedance protection differentiating between in-zone and out-of-zone faults based on instantaneous, digitally derived operating and polarizing, distance comparator signals. The method uses a pair of fast orthogonal filters to derive D and Q components of the input voltages and currents. Two sets of operating and polarizing signals are derived for better speed of response under varying fault moment with respect to the peaks and zero crossings of power signals. Three stages of comparison between the operating and polarizing impedance terms are used. These comparator stages use half a cycle averaging windows, and three-quarters-of-a-cycle windows. The first stage of comparison is based on energy comparator responding to both magnitude and phase information in the signals. Stages 2 and 3 are of phase comparison type, responding mostly at the phase information and neglecting the magnitude information for better immunity to noise and signal distortions.10-02-2008
20080243413 SELF-ADJUSTING VOLTAGE FILTERING TECHNIQUE COMPENSATING FOR DYNAMIC ERRORS OF CAPACITIVE VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS - A method of digitally correcting the raw output voltage from a Capacitive Voltage Transformer (CVT) with the intent to remove transient components impacting on transient accuracy of protection function. A typical CVT is represented using three parameters in the linear CVT model. A digital filter designed based on the three parameters and incorporating a dedicated mechanism to ensure numerical stability of the former. A method of self-adjusting the said filter based on system events and performed after the method has been deployed in the field and supplied from a specific CVT.10-02-2008
