20100226644METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DETECTING SMALL SPAN LOSS CHANGES IN FIBER OPTIC NETWORKS - The present disclosure provides methods and systems for detecting small span loss changes in fiber optic networks. The present invention utilizes existing equipment without additional hardware to provide span loss measurements in a highly accurate manner. In an exemplary embodiment, the present invention utilizes power measurements associated with an optical supervisory channel (OSC) at both ends of a fiber span. These measurements are periodically sampled taking into account propagation delay along the fiber span. Further, these measurements are integrated or time-averaged to account for temporary fluctuations. The present invention can be utilized for intrusion detection (i.e., unwanted fiber taps), fiber degradation, and fiber aging performance. The present invention satisfies the criteria for a feasible (i.e., makes use of current architecture), cost-effective (i.e., does not require additional hardware), and highly accurate solution (i.e., capable of detecting span loss changes of 0.01 dB or 0.03%).09-09-2010

20100315011LAMP ASSEMBLY WITH LED AND FLUORESCENT LAMP - A lamp assembly includes a lamp base having power input terminals, a fluorescent lamp connected to the terminals through a manually operated switch that is on an exterior of the lamp base so that when power is supplied to the terminals the fluorescent lamp is selectively powered by manual operation of the switch, and a light emitting diode (LED) inseparably connected to the terminals so that when power is supplied to the terminals the LED is always powered. This arrangement allows the LED to be ON regardless of the operating status of the fluorescent lamp and allows the fluorescent lamp to be turned OFF while the LED remains ON.12-16-2010
20110260638REFLECTOR-TYPE LAMP WITH INTEGRATED HEAT DISTRIBUTION AND EMI SHIELDING - Reflector-type lamps and housings with integrated heat distribution and EMI shielding are disclosed. A reflector-type lamp includes a lamp housing having a base portion, a reflector portion, and an integrated heat distribution structure. A light source may be located in a reflector housing region or cavity defined by the reflector portion and integrated electronics may be located in a base housing region or cavity defined by the base portion. In general, the heat distribution structure distributes heat from hot spots in the lamp to exterior locations along the base portion and/or reflector portion. The heat distribution structure may also provide electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding when EMI is generated within the lamp, for example, in the integrated electronics.10-27-2011
20120008324SELF-CONTAINED MULTI-FUNCTION RETRO-REFLECTING MIRROR IN LAMP TUBE - A fluorescent lamp is provided that has a plurality of electroded tubes and a plurality of non-electroded tubes. The electroded tubes and the non-electroded tubes each have a proximal end and a distal end. Each proximal end is adjacent a base of the fluorescent lamp. A reflecting mirror is positioned in the proximal end of at least one of the non-electroded tubes or the electroded tubes. The reflecting mirror has a surface reflective of at least some frequencies of visible and ultra-violet light generated by the fluorescent lamp. The electroded tubes can also have a reflecting mirror positioned between the electrode and the end of the tube. In the latter case, an opposite surface of the reflecting mirror can include one or more of an end-of-life composition and/or a runner-up amalgam. A method of placing the reflecting mirror within a tube of a tubular fluorescent lamp is also provided.01-12-2012

20110249700METHOD FOR DETECTING DEFECT IN MATERIAL AND SYSTEM FOR THE METHOD - A defect on the surface or in the surface layer of a moving material can be detected by using a method comprising steps of: heating the surface of the material, obtaining thermal image data of the surface of the material using an infrared thermography camera while the surface of the material is being heated up at the heating step or being cooled down after heating, and detecting the defect by calculating Laplacian with respect to temperature of the surface represented by the thermal image data. When the thermal image data is obtained while the material is being heated up, a heating device and the camera is arranged so that thermal energy emitted from the heating device is reflected by the material to come into the camera.10-13-2011
