20090031934Biomass Energy Recovery Apparatus - An apparatus for extracting energy from fiber introduced as a fuel into a vertically elongated combustion chamber having a suspension burner capable of projecting a flame down the axis of the combustion chamber with a heat collection surface located radially from the flame and below the burner, and an exhaust opening located below the flame and below at least a portion of the heat collection surface, in which the combusted fiber yields a mixture containing hot flue gas and molten ash above the exhaust opening and heat transfers therefrom to the heat collection surface prior to any substantial contact of ash to a surface of the combustion chamber, to yield a mixture containing warm flue gas and non-molten ash, that is thereafter cooled to yield a mixture containing cool flue gas and non-molten ash.02-05-2009
20090044737Process for Efficient Energy Recovery from Biomass - A method for extracting energy from biomass depleted of at least some carbohydrate, at least some oil, or both by a) introducing the biomass into a vertically elongated combustion chamber having i) at least one suspension burner at the top of the combustion chamber which is capable of projecting a flame down the axis of the combustion chamber, ii) a heat transfer apparatus having at least a portion of a heat collection surface located radially from the flame and below the burner, and iii) an exhaust opening located below the flame and below at least a portion of the heat collection surface; b) combusting the biomass to yield a mixture containing hot flue gas and molten ash above the exhaust opening; c) transferring heat from the hot flue gas to at least a portion of the heat collection surface substantially by radiation prior to any substantial contact of ash to a surface of the combustion chamber, to yield a mixture containing warm flue gas and non-molten ash and having a lower molten ash content than the mixture yielded by the combusting step; and d) cooling the warm flue gas with cold gas, to yield a mixture containing cool flue gas and non-molten ash and having a lower molten ash content than the mixture yielded by the transferring step.02-19-2009

20100057675Search Provider Recommendation - A component presents access to a recommended search provider via a user interface element. In an example embodiment, a device-implemented method for recommending a search provider includes acts of receiving, ascertaining, and modifying. A search query input is received. A recommended search provider is ascertained at least partially responsive to the search query input. A user interface is modified to indicate the recommended search provider.03-04-2010
20100228710Contextual Query Suggestion in Result Pages - Described is a search technology in which a search engine constructs a results page for a query that integrates suggested queries with the individual query results (e.g., displayed URLs). When rendered, the proximity of the suggested queries to their corresponding individual query result provides context as to the specific URL to which the suggested query is related. Suggested queries may appear alongside their associated search result, e.g., a displayed URL, and/or in an expandable panel proximate that individual search result. Suggested queries may appear within text accompanying a URL, and/or in a drop down menu following interaction with such text or the like. Related queries may be found by using a search result URL to find a query, by analyzing a search result's text snippet, by accessing historical data, and/or by accessing current user session data.09-09-2010
20100228777Identifying a Discussion Topic Based on User Interest Information - Functionality is described for identifying a discussion topic based on user interest information. The user interest information may originate from one or more sources, such as the user's search-related behavior. The functionality then provides an opportunity for the user to engage in a communication exchange associated with the identified discussion topic.09-09-2010
20100281012AUTOMATIC RECOMMENDATION OF VERTICAL SEARCH ENGINES - The automatic search engine recommendation technique described herein automatically recommends topic-specific search engines for user queries. In one embodiment, it automatically matches each query submitted to a non-topic specific or general search engine with one or more vertical search engines using a recommendation model and a set of features. For a given query, one embodiment of the technique suggests vertical search engines and topic-specific search results along with the search results from the general search engine.11-04-2010
20110202533Dynamic Search Interaction - This patent application pertains to dynamic search interaction. One example includes an organizational component configured to obtain a search query from a user. The organizational component can also be configured to obtain related search queries. The organizational component can further be configured to organize the related search queries by topic and to estimate a relative likelihood that an intent of the user matches an individual topic. This example also includes an image generation component configured to cause the organized related search queries to be presented on a graphical user interface (GUI) in a manner that reflects the relative likelihood.08-18-2011

20110213761SEARCHABLE WEB SITE DISCOVERY AND RECOMMENDATION - A searchable web site discovery and recommendation system and method for discovering and recommending searchable web sites to a user of a search engine. In general, given a search query by a user embodiments of the system and method discover and then recommend a list of searchable web sites. Embodiments of the system and method discover and recommend searchable web sites using client-side query behavior logs. A set of descriptive features is automatically extracted from the logs. In addition, embodiments of the system and method expand the initial search query by submitting the query to a general search engine and leveraging snippets from the search engine results. Embodiments of the system and method model a conditional probability of a searchable web site based on four components and the extracted descriptive features. A ranked list of recommended searchable web sites is obtained from the conditional probability and displayed to a user.09-01-2011
